Title: S9000 Reel Stop Sound
Post by: BiggerHammer on April 21, 2014, 03:20:52 PM
I can't seem figure out how to change the reel stop sound from solonoid to off or speaker. Surely there is a setting for this i would think. The sound menu looks to be very limited on these Alphas. Am I missing something in the settings?

Well that sucks. I don't know which is louder... the constant solonoid clunk or the groan of the reels.

If your reels are noisy you can fix that buy attaching some 2 face tape (must be very sticky)  to the cross bars on the reel baskets and press the strips onto them. That should quiet down the reels.

So the tape would actually go between the cross bars and the reel strips?

Yes, must be very sticky so try using some 2 face transparent tape, not easily removed type.

On the solenoid, you could pull one wire to stop the noise. If you want  the handle to work zip tie the solenoid plunger.
Two sided tape on the cross bars is a good fix, also zip tie the two halves of the basket together quietens them down.

Yeah, I went ahead and unplugged the solenoid. Can't do the zip tie trick on these reels do to the LED backlites and the fact that the spokes are single to only one side of the baskets. I did discover that the thumbwheel lock for the reel center adjusters was not tight on two of the reels. I cranked those down tight and that took care of most of the vibration. It's at least at an acceptable level now.

Yeah, the thumb wheel has to be tight, but I found that the reels spin so fast they make noise and using the tape sure does help.  If you even got an original set of reels with the strips on them that were not replaced, you will find the Bally used a rubber type cement on the edges of the reel strips and tape on the cross bars to quiet them down.

Can somebody post a picture of what to zip tie?  I’d love to make this more quiet.
