Title: Boards for WMS 40x dotmation and non dotmation machines
Post by: Terps on December 13, 2017, 03:24:04 PM
Are the CPU and I/O boards interchangeable between the dotmation and non dotmation machines (both being WMS 400 machines)?

Yes.  But there's also a Video I/O board that looks very similar.  Make sure you have the stepper variety.

Rick, do you mean the dot board for the dotmation machines? Just so I’m clear the CPU and I/O boards could come out of a dotmation and be put into a non dotmation, correct? Sorry, I’m just trying to make sure I understand.
Thanks
Fusco

The IO and CPU boards are the same for the DOT and non DOT machines. The non Dot machines obviously don't have Dot boards, DMDs or upper power supplies that are needed for Dot Machines. There is also a couple oh harness's needed that go to the backplane (serial port) , the bottom power supply ( Green, White, Black) and Dot board to upper PS. The IO board the other member is talking about is an IO board that is specific to Video, not Dotmation.

What ^^^^ said.  The IO board for the video platform lacks the stepper controller ic's.  They look very similar and it would physically "fit" into the same slot.  I don't have a picture of both.

But the original answer was yes, Dot and Non Dot machines are essentially the same, just additional hardware required to run dot display.
