Title: BB1.5 Original Ruby Slippers with Top Box, TITO and Lost Communication
Post by: Ash100 on February 02, 2021, 01:35:20 PM
Not sure if this is a TITO question or a Top Box Communication question. So, here's my delima.

I have an original Ruby Slippers with the Top Box. Game set up fine and plays great, Top box lights work and so on.

I wanted to add a TITO System to it, but Host Com 1 Port has the serial cable in it that attaches to the top box.

So I figured I would just use Com Port 2 and change my TITO settings. Well, that didn't work. It would not recognize the TITO on that port even with it set up as Com 2.

The game still played great though.

Today I decided to swap the connectors and use Com 1for the TITO as the instructions say, but now I've lost communication to my Top Box. So I guess it won't communicate via port 2.

I swapped the serial cable back to port 1 and re-cleared the game and set it back up in the original configuration, but still have a "Lost Top Box Communication" error.

2 questions, how do I re-enable the Com to the Top Box and will a TITO work in this machine via Com Port 2?

Thanks,

Curtis ash100

Ruby Slippers does not require the top box fooler if you disable the top box in game options in the setup.

I have always used com 1 for TITO.

Trace out the cable, where does it go?  It may lead to no where?

It goes to the Top Box, which I have installed on the game.

I know how to disable it for a standard BB2, I am trying to re-enable it so it works again.

And use TITO.

Ash....Is there a TseTse board already in the topbox or something else?

is that where the com harness is running to in the topbox?

I'm not sure about a TSE TSE Board, but the Top Box communicates with the game somehow and controls the lighting and effects.

The serial cable plugged into Com Port 1 goes directly into the Top Box, so I'm guessing it's signals are generated from the COU to the motherboard then out that port. When I tried to use Host Com Port 2 and put the TITO in Port 1, I lost that communication.

Now I've put everything back to the original configuration and still don't have communication to the Top Box.

I'm thinking that I must have missed a setting somewhere to let the machine know that there is indeed a light box over the second LCD.

I attached a photo of what the game looks like to avoid any confusion.  When I refer to the Top Box, I dont mean the upper LCD. I actually have a Top Box surround and the upper display.

Thanks,

There are different TITO models floating around.

What if you got in contact with the maker of your TITO version and see if they can verify if you'd lose communication if it were plugged into COM serial port 2?

Maybe the TITO version you have NEEDS COM 1 and no other port because of whatever's written into the programming of the TITO?

That way you can continue to use the COM 1 port for the topbox.

I wish I could help more.

Thanks Bunker,

I know I've got 2 seperate problems now, so I will get in touch with Jim at Bettor Slots and see what he has to say about the TITO.

In the meantime, I'll clear it again, leave the TITO disconnected and see if I can get my Top Box working again.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, just chime in.

Interesting photo of the top box. That black area up there was for the progressive meter. So whoever sold that machine installed the SA version. Have you looked up there to see if the meter is still there?

yeah...the reason why I said that is sometimes I get COM problems with my printers for a video game I have when I try to change the name it prints.

When I hook it up to my laptop USB port, sometimes it wants another comm port and I'm actually able to open the printer settings and a dialog box allows me to change the USB port number.....too bad we're not able to do that with our TITO's should we need to because the serial port is in use by another device, like your topbox.

Let us know what Sayler thinks....maybe he's got an idea that'll work for ya.

That's just a photo I pulled from the internet real quick so I could post it up.

But yes, my machine is complete with the Progressive Display and all of it's components minus the Controller. Eventually I would like to get the IPC to make it all work, but for now i just want to enjoy the game.

I had the entire machine apart to refurbish it,  and let me tell ya, that Topper is heavy with that display in it.

Just for the record, an IPC is for an IGT, not WMS. You would need the WAP version of the game too,as well as all the hardware, cables and controller.
