Title: BB1 Bill Validator Comm error, Thank you RickHunter
Post by: Mikey4026 on October 06, 2023, 07:05:19 PM
OK, something of a long story.
I bought this Fairies Fortune machine for my wife years ago. The WBA validator worked intermittently.
Some years ago, I replaced the backplane with the green one part A-06672-03 and short harness from the validator.
I don't remember what color the original one was. Is there a functional difference in the green and blue?
Backplane jumpers are set at:
JP1 2-3
JP2 1-2 also tried 2-3
JP3 2.3
JP4 2-3
JP7 2-3
JP9 2-3
The CPU is part number A-017478-10-00 BIOS V1.13.12 Blue board.
The JCM WBA -13-SS all DIP switches are set upward. When doing the 123-8 switch test, it accepts bills normally. With all switches set in the normal positions, it does not self test on start up, it acts completely dead now, it did however work normally for some months when I replaced the backplane. Then it became intermittent again and quit in short order.
Not being terribly familiar with Williams, is there a difference in the green and blue backplanes? I see both advertised. Did I screw up and put the wrong backplane in?
Is there something else I should be looking at? The game setting is JCM in the software and no settings have been changed since it was last working.
Can someone point me in the right direction to get this thing working again?
Thanks
Mike

There is no difference between the green and the blue.  They switched to blue when the newer cpunxt blue boxes were released.  I have a mixture of blues and greens on my bb1's and it doesn't make any difference.  As far as your validator, have you tried a known working one?  If the validator worked before, making any changes to the jumpers on the mainboard will not fix it.  There's only 1 position that works and you should not do anything with the jumpers unless you changed the validator to something other than what you had originally.  These WBA validators are really old now and I've had several that had the transport go bad on me.  I would source another validator that matches what you have from a reputable source that can sell you a known working one.

Thanks for replying Rick
I don't have another validator, I will see if I can find one.

Rick Hunter
I was finally able to find another JCM validator at Spin, upon installing it it still refused to function.
I replaced the backplane with a cheap one off of Ebay. I clear chipped it and set everything up, the validator is now working but won't read tickets. The TITO is now refusing to communicate. I tried another TITO and 232 cord on COMM 1, still no communication, both green lights on the TITO flashing.
I chipped it again and checked all my settings, I did not see anything apparently amiss with my settings.
I disabled COMM 1 and enabled COMM 2, plugged in the TITO and all is well, I have solid green lights on the TITO, now taking and printing tickets.
These old bill validators are getting hard to find.
I appreciate your guidance, I was really lost and just about to pull my hair out! I was in that boat again today!
Thank you Rick and Spin!
Mike
