Title: Might be buying a 5000 series Bally
Post by: The Fatman on May 23, 2015, 04:06:53 PM
What is the Forums general opinion on this machine? I have only dealt with IGT s+ 2000 and Bally EM's. Have a chance to pick up one and want to make sure I am educated in this model before I commit to it. What do you think about this model, and its stability to operate and if there is any general problems that are regular with this machine ... Thanks my friends.
Dave F ... see you in August in Pottstown PA

A Bally 5000 can be a real ball buster but a Bally 5500 is pretty easy to work on.

If you get a 5000 make sure you put in the correct battery, unless there are some jumpers and diodes on the back of the MPU board you will need to install a rechargeable battery. If there are jumpers the board has been modified to take a Lithium battery, non-rechargeable.

As Badbaud mentioned the 5000s are a pain in the a$$. I would stay away from them. The 5500s are ok. I would try to get a 6000 series, easy to work on and parts are plentiful. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, send the boards to our shop. We have a tester and all spare parts to support  those older systems.
PM me for details.

If I have not already I could send you a dropbox link to a manual that shows the wiring schematics for the AC power section.
PM me with your email address.

Unfortunately I'm not savvy with reading the schematics but can follow photos.  I do have a repair manual and I'm struggling to follow as I don't understand the varistor block.  Do you have a photo of the (3) fuses and on off switch?
Take care
