WMS Wizard of Oz Call Attendant Message
« on: October 11, 2024, 07:30:30 AM »
I have a Williams Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper machine and power outage caused me to need to reboot machine and it will not get past Call Attendant.  I turn the key on the side and it gives error message of

ASSERT_FAIL: assertion=pTopBoxRoot!=__null     file=/gamesrc/WizardOfOz/framework/libgame/include/game.h2514      function=Sprite*CGame::GetTopBoxRootSprite()

I found a box with boards in the top of the machine and it seems like I am supposed to reboot that unit, but I do not know how.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just go into the machine setup under "Game", scroll to the bottom, and where it says Top Box, change it to "disabled" and save and exit.

Close everything up and all should work fine.   :cool_thumb_up:

Your advice seems very good. The problem I am having is that I am not able to go into the setup screen when I push the diagnostics button to get to Game and disable the top box. The BB2 is starting its boot up when I power it on on from the top monitor and that does not seem normal. The bottom or main monitor is not starting up when I power it up.  When I try pushing the diagnostics button nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to get to setup screen?  :EmoticonHelp4:

Cables can get just a little loose and can cause them to not display.  If the CPU doesn't get an EDID back from the main touchscreen, odd things can happen!

If the display cables are tight and still no display, something could be amiss with your CPU.  I would boot with a clear card and see if the main display comes up when booting with that.
If it doesn't, bigger problems.   If it does, it clears NVRAM, probably good to do that anyway with errors, and just reinstall the game.

If it doesn't display with the clear card, you probably want to troubleshoot it with that instead of a game OS anyway.  And even if not indicated on the screen, if you batteries haven't been replaced in awhile, good time to do it.

Also, should be watching the top display as it boots looking for any unusual error messages.

Since you have one display working, you at least have some visibiity as it boots.

I'll betcha the door switch is stuck closed.
Your door may be physically open, but the machine thinks it's still closed.

Check just under the shelf towards the right a bit.
That sliding switch gets stuck sometimes on these BB2's.
Just pull it out a little towards neutral center and then press the Diagnostic white button.
You should be able to get into the Operator Menus now.

Thank you for all the great answers to my problem. I checked the door latch and they appeared to not be stuck. Next, I checked my bottom monitor by hooking up an old Sony computer monitor. I booted up the machine and it came up better than ever. It let me get to a point where I could select setup options, the only problem the monitor is not touch screen so I ordered a monitor for the bottom door with touchscreen and it will probably take about a week to arrive. I will know more at that time. I am praying this will solve my problem. I so appreciate all your great advice. :hail:

That's strange because the Diagnostic button will not work, if it was stuck closed.

Earlier in Reply#2, you stated " ...When I try to push the Diagnostics button, nothing happens..."

I received a new touch screen monitor for the bottom monitor on my Bluebird "Williams "Wizard Of Oz slot and I just finished installing it and booted the machine up and everything came up perfectly. I did not have to change any settings. I want to thank everyone who gave me good advice. I am so happy to have my machine back up and running properly. This is such a great site!!! :hail: :waving_flag:
