Title: Key Chip Question for the 3902 board
Post by: Amechanic on September 21, 2016, 07:27:10 AM
It's been a couple years since I had to setup a game with the 3902 board. I think I have a #40 key chip from setting up my Game King slant top. I'm now working on a 17" GK and I see other Key Chips, #17 and #22.. What the best one for what I'm doing?

Thanks, Gary

22 is what I use all the time, it gives the option of doing keychip functions without clearing, as 17 does not.

Should a 17 keychip work on all 3902 boards?

I have one that works fine on older games like Neon Nights, but I used it on Kingpin Bowling and when I reverted it back to the base chip, the game turned on as if I never installed the key chip. (There were no credits on the machine.)

Maybe I just did something wrong?

I like to use the 22 key chip.. I do have a 17 and only had to use it once.

Hi Guys, could you tell me what might be going on when I try a 22 and/or a 17 chip and upon restart I get a rainbow confetti screen?

Thanks,

Scott

One time when I installed the chip, a pin was sticking out, resulting in a confetti screen. Be sure that all the pins are seated!

like smoothgrh said check for bent/broken pin also double check the chip is not in backwards.

there was another post recently going where someone had a confetti screen it turned out to be a bad power supply.  ( http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=18873.0 (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=18873.0) )

hope its something simple for ya.

Thanks All! But still no luck. Replaced the PS with known good PS and no change. Pins are all good. So Mark, are you saying I could also try a 40 chip on this 3902?

Are you still having the same issue with your screen on start up? If yes did you go read the other thread where they had a power supply problem with the monitors PS, not the one for the cabinet.
