I just got a used GK. i was told the 19''monitor didn't work.if i turn it on at night i can see a black glow..the fans kick on and candle is flashing, none of the buttons in front light up..i'm not sure if its the monitor or the board..any help would be apreciated
-
Your monitor might need a new video board. If it has power to it and it glows that means the power supply is working and the inverter is turning on the backlight. But it's not getting any video out. Try ordering a new video board from the manufacturer of the monitor itself.
-
Is it a CRT or LCD?
Have you fiddled with the controls yet? I had one with a "broken" CRT monitor and it was a dirty brightness control.
Have you tried playing the game just to see if it does anything?
Backlit bulbs?
-
It is lcd touch screen.
I call the company tomorrow ( casino tech) and see about a video board
Thanks
-
If it's an LCD it should have an onscreen menu system. Press the menu button, if an menu appears on the screen you may have problems with the MPU board or wiring.
-
I push the menu button nothing happens. But if I disconnect the video plug it say no video
-
If you can read the words no video, then your monitor is ok and the problem is somewhere else. Have you checked to see if you main board is plugged in?
-
Yes, I have checked. The little led’s go right to a greenish yellow. The candle blinks. No light on the front push buttons but if I push service that light button will light up.
-
Your button lights will not light up till the game boots up. The candle flashing is normal. How long are you waiting for this game to come on? These games can take minutes to boot up depending on what games in it.
-
Probably 10 min. Nothing on screen just black. This is my first GK so I’m at a total loss for what it could be.
I got it cheap 300 but had to drive 6 hrs to get it. So hoping in something simple.
-
Start posting some picture of your MPU Board and of the machine. Pictures will tell us things sometimes faster then just giving us the problems..
-
I will
Have to down size the files

Here’s some pictures

Please post picture to THIS SITE, not a host. It's a LOT easier for everyone to help you seeing the pictures here. Just press "modify" and at the bottom will be a menu to choose the photos of your machine. THANK YOU.
-
Have you checked to see if your. Artery is dead on the MPU board. I'm not sure if that would not allow your machine too boot up. It should have more then 2.8V. New ones have 3V+. If new need a new battery make sure to install a battery holder. That way the next time there is no soldering involved. If your not good at soldering, find a local battery store. They will usually do it for a small fee.
-
Yeah I’m going to change it out tomorrow and see what happens
Thanks

here's better pics

you probably have a bad cap on the power supply to the display. replace the C105 capacitor (47UF 50V) near the main heat sink. id have to pull a schematic because i cant recall the details, but it causes either the 5v or 12v to be about half . you could use a PC power supply to test the display. that what i used until i fixed the power supply.
-
That's for that information. Sure a lot cheaper fix then buying a replacement LCD Monitor.
-
Are you talking cap on main board or in the power pack on the monitor ?
Thanks
-
I think it's the monitor PS Board..
-
I push the menu button nothing happens. But if I disconnect the video plug it say no video
This puzzles me a bit. There's instructions on the side of your monitor. I can't read them all because it is cut off. Try following them with the video cable disconnected and see what happens. What doesn't make sense to me is that you get a "no video" error message when the video cable is disconnected, but no menu when the menu button is pushed. Post a couple of pictures of the entire monitor if you can.
-
If I plug monitor in bypassing gk power without video hooked up it say no video and shuts off. When powered thru machine it never says anything nor does the button on monitor due anything. I’m going to check battery tonight. Not sure if a dead battery keep machine from booting up.
-
So you're saying that you can power the monitor on a bench and get a "no video" and then it disappears correct? You have a Kortek LCD monitor and most of those have a green LED at the top of the LCD on the button panel. It should come on solid green when you turn it on and it's displaying "no video", and then blinks on and off when the "no video" box disappears correct?
Now when the monitor is powered by the machine does the green LED come on at all?
Your MPU will still boot with a dead battery, and yours it booting up to a point. The MPU controls the candle and it would not blink if the MPU didn't tell it to.
EDIT: While waiting to hear from you on whether your monitor power LED lights up in the machine I experimented with my Game King with a Kortek LCD monitor. My monitor will not display a menu when I press the menu button until it has a video signal present. That's helps explain why yours doesn't either, it appears to be normal behavior for a Kortek monitor.
-
i am getting the green power light on monitor when i run it thru machine..checked my battery and it is reading 2.8 volts
-
not sure if i can hook up to laptop with out hurting the monitor if thats not the problem
-
Your battery is on the low side, but I don't think it's responsible for your blank video problem. Unless you have a really ancient laptop, your resolution would be too high for the monitor to display. I think they only support VGA (640X480) resolution.
OK, so the monitor is getting power through the game since the LED lights. Does the power LED on the monitor stays on continuously or blink?
Try this. Power off the machine and remove the MPU board.
Turn the machine on with MPU removed.. The LCD LED light should come on steady and a small box should say "NO VIDEO CONNECTION". After a few seconds that box should disappear the LED begins blinking on and off.
Let me know if that's what yours does.
While the MPU board is removed look at the connectors when the MPU board plugs into the motherboard. Make sure none of those pins are bent. You can also look at connector J5 on the motherboard. That's the monitor connection. Make sure it's fully seated.
-
Yes I did that and that’s what happens.
When the machine is on the power green power light stays on solid. With out the MPU it does exactly what you said NO video connection
I have checked all the connections couldn’t see anything out of the norm
-
Replaced battery made no difference
-
Ok. I found a document that said the 17" LCD supports up to 1280X1024. So I said what the hell and grabbed a VGA cable and hooked my slot laptop up to the LCD. It's a dell so I had to hit Function + CRT/LCD to get video out of the VGA connector on the back of the laptop. Sure enough the game LCD displayed it. Here's a picture at 800X600. It worked at 1280X1024 as well. I didn't have to change any setting on the LCD. So if you have a male/male VGA cable hook it up and see if you get a display.
Also can you take a picture of those instructions on the side of your monitor?
-
Okay I’ll give that a try tomorrow
Thanks
-
Sounding more like a board problem or software problem? Have you checked to see if all your eproms are installed facing the correct direction, and that there are no bent or broken legs on any chips? It looks like you have a 17" cabinet. The monitor should flash different colors, Red, Blue, Green while the machine boots up. When you turn the power on do you hear the fans come on? There is 1 or 2 large fans, and a smaller fan on the right side of the MPU tray.. All it takes is one pin somewhere not making a connection..
Oops my mistake. That 17" cabinets yours Tilt..
-
Yeah checked all that. Fans come on. I bought it from a kid who inherited it from his grandma. Says she hit a jack pot and screen went blank. I take that with a grain of salt the kid was like 12
-
No that doesn't make any sense
-
Okay hook monitor to laptop and same thing. Just black screen. Seems problem must be in the monitor
-
Yeah, kind of sounds that way. Did you change the screen resolution on your computer to 1280x1024 or below?
I'm still curious as to what the entire warning message on the side of your monitor says. It's in reference to using the auto-scale button, which is something your may want to try. Nothing really to lose at this point it would seem. If that doesn't do anything to help then I'd start looking for another A/D converter board for your monitor.
-
Puckhead did say in post #18 that he believed there was a bad cap on the board and even gave the location and size cap it is.
-
here the instructions on monitor
-
After reading that warning on the label, makes me wonder if that's what's wrong with your monitor?
-
I saw that but you’d think it would reset or something.
-
Puckhead did say in post #18 that he believed there was a bad cap on the board and even gave the location and size cap it is.
That was for the power supply which appears to be working OK. I think his power supply is probably a sealed "brick" type power supply that can't be opened anyhow.
-
I saw that but you’d think it would reset or something.
I was hoping with the computer connected to it that you'd get a video signal so the onscreen menus would work and then you could do a factory reset from there. I don't know of any way to do it other than with the menus. I think your A/D board is probably the problem, whether it's from corrupt settings or a failed component is hard to say. You could try calling Casinotech Monday and see if they have any ideas. Not sure if they deal with individuals or not though.
On the A/D board there should be a part number that you can google and see what you come up with for documentation or replacement information.
-
Will do
Thanks
-
i thought i would try to hook up a computer monitor to the machines video cable. i think this confirms the AD board is bad on machine monitor..
i will try to order a new online.
thanks
-
That's a good idea. Yep, hopefully a new A/D board will have it up and running again.
-
I got my new AD card today
Machine is up and running.
Thanks everyone
Now I need to figure out how to set up printer in settings
And what key hip number I need to set up different games
-
There are a few different key chips for the GK/I-Games depending on what your running. There is a key 17 for the older 4.0/4.3 games and a Key 22 for the 5.0/5.3. Then if you have the newer 044 board using the newer 6.3/6.7 you need the key 28.
You will find the printer settings in the machine setup menu. Then to the machine options, then Peripheral Devices Setup. That's where you will find the printer, Bill validator, and Hopper settings. I alway set my Tilt to Soft.
-
I saw that but it won’t let me change nothing. Thought might need to do key chip. U
-
Glad you got the monitor fixed :applause: . Where did you end up getting the A/D board from?
If you post your Base and GME chip numbers from we can figure out what Key you need.
-
I got the AD board from CasinoTech 95.00
My chips say G0002833
And base is M0001050
Thanks
-
Looks like you have 5.0 software and your going to need a Key 22 chip. Your not going to be able to make any changes till you Key chip the game. Then you can enable or disable your printer. Make sure there are no credits on the machine.
-
Thanks
I’ll order one right now.

Thanks. Good to know Casino Tech will sell to home users. Like Amechanic said, that's GK5.0 and uses Key 22.
-
I was also glad. They where very friendly and helpful.
Not sure where to get the keychip 22 from. Only see 2 on eBay and one acts like he could careless if he sales it or not, if you know of a place please let me know.
Thanks

One of our vendors may read this and contact you. Give it a day or two and if you don't hear from one post a new topic in this forum and I'll move it to the Classified Ad section for you.

Thanks
-
Try contacting Jim at Midwest Slot or Ken at Ohio Gaming. Both are listed on the home page. Either should have the Key Chip.
-
Thanks
I will

RB is another source for key chips.
