Title: GK044 Dome Top - Sound dropping out?
Post by: sftechgeek on February 22, 2020, 09:16:32 PM
I have a GK where the sound is dropping out intermittently.  I can turn it on and there will be no sound. Restarting the machine might bring it back. It appears I am only getting sound from the right speaker. I have the panda speakers.

I’ve used contact cleaner on the plugs and notice there is a sound board. Going into the sound test, I can increase/decrease the sound but sometimes there is no sound in this menu either.

I suspect the sound board may be failing. I have a DEV39 Chip.  I cleared the NVRAM, with no change. Can anyone offer any suggestions.
:thank_you:

I have more to add:

When the sound works, I get sound from right speaker and center speaker.

There is no signal coming from connector J1 for left speaker. I can swap the connectors and verify that the left speaker works. So I suspect the In Line Amp PCB is starting to fail.

I guess I could jumper the connector J1 but that does not account for the sound dropping out.

Is the replacement. Any comments?

you could try swapping the amp board out with another know working one, other then that the flash boards are known for sound issues, you could either deal with the sound how it is or try to find someone to reflash the board though that might kill it all together.(all the static/touching which flash boards just love  :24: )

My bet is on the flash board unfortunately.  I've yet to see an amp board go bad.  Note that some games do only play music from one speaker, poker rollup tones being one.  Try stereo sounds in the diagnostics menus or try a different game that utilizes stereo sound like wolf run or coyote moon.
