Title: Game King Setup. Noobie Help
Post by: phazeone on May 22, 2020, 07:46:42 PM
Hello,

I am trying to setup my Game King, however, I am running into issues setting it up. I have game version 2142. I installed the Key 40 but after I reboot I enter a "Key Chip Menu security level 1" that doesn't seem to allow me access to the menu options I need to change to continue setup from the tutorials I found on this site.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Right now I think I may need to buy another Key (17 or 22) but I wanted to consult the forums before I shell out more money on another chip. Attached are pictures of my board and screenshots. Thanks in advance.

Key 17 is the correct key.  Key 40 will work, but only if you answer yes to all three menu options.

It appears your real issue is you have a game software mismatch.  Your graphics files should be C0000793 and the two pixel ROMs are, but the error screen is showing C0000794.  Check the two CG ROMs that are under the sound board.  Are those 793's or 794's?

Thank you I just order the key 17.

I apologize that I forgot to mention that I just purchased two Game King systems that I thought were exactly the same. I just posted a picture of one of the boards that didn't correspond to the screen. Sorry for the confusion.

One system has a 793 set on the board and the other system has a 794 set. I am able to use the Key 40 and answered yes to all 3. After I reboot with the game key installed it gives me the "GameID Mismatch Error" on both machines. The Pixel Version indicated on the "Game ID mismatch Error" screen for each system matches the Pixel and CG ROMs on the board. After turning the attendant key a few times I am able to get to a "Key Chip Menu" but doesn't seem to have the options I need to complete the setup.

Will the Key 17 unlock those options? or is that "GameID Mismatch Error" or something else preventing me from unlocking those options? Thanks in advance.

Ah, that explains it.  The M837, G2142, & C793 set is correctly matched and should work.  The second set going by the photo is mismatched.  M888 & G2142 go together, but should have C793 graphics files, not 794.

Try the board with the correct software set.   Use key 40 answer yes to all three questions and it should bring up the keychip menu when you get through the errors (RAM ERROR, EEPROM error, etc).  You had the keychip menu up on the one picture you posted.

Yes! I finally got the settings figured out for the M837,G2142, & C793 setup. It's up and running now.

The other set with the M888, G2142 & C794 gives me a "Main Battery Low" & "Printer Communication failure". I plan on changing the battery on the board with a Jameco Battery Holder and after swapping out printers with the other it seems the printer unit is bad on this one. Other than those issues. Will I have issues if I run the C794 roms and would I need to purchase C793 roms? Thanks again for all the help. You have been a lifesaver.

Glad to hear you got one up and running  :applause: .  Replacing the main battery should get rid of the main battery error low message.  As far as the printer Comm failure message goes you can disable it in the the game software with the keychip.  It's not required for home use and your bill validator won't accept printed tickets anyhow unless you install a TITO board.

Yes, you're going to need C793 chips, the 794's will give you the Game Mismatch Error.  Contact member RB here, he can get you the correct ones.
