Title: No sound on Bally E2000
Post by: Brewchap on March 09, 2024, 02:19:14 PM
Hi experts!!  I'm afraid I still need some help on my Bally E2000 machine. This machine was dead when I got it and I have done lots to get it where it is now. But I believe that this is the last of my hurdles. I did have to order from Ebay, a 16 pin flat connector that runs from the sound card to the I/O card that I found missing.
In testing, I found that the AS2518-130 sound board does work (make sounds) when I press the red button (with flat cable disconnected.) But when I have the flat cable connected to the sound card and I/O card, the sounds do not work when the red button is pressed.

Is it possible that a chip need for sound on the CPU has bit rot and needs to be replace/burned?

I attached some pictures to show what I'm working with.

I seem to recall a buffer board was needed on the long cable side of the I/O board to get the sounds to work.

Hmm, is this going to be a hard to find board? Do you happen to know what the part number is. I don't see it in the manual.

Does anyone have a picture of the Buffer board?

Thank you litterbox99!

Can this part be re-manufactured?

I have around 30 of them. They do have a sideways 5 pin connector that a cable is plugged into. If that cable is not present then a buffer board won't power up.
If you have that connector in your system then I can send you a couple of untested boards for you to play with. email me.

Thank you sir! When I was doing a search, all I found was people looking for that board. I just assumed that it was going to be a hard to find part.

I wanted to put a closer to this thread and to let everyone know the kindness of Badbaud (Alan.) :hail: He gracelessly sent me some buffer boards for me to try on my machine. I am happy to announce that it was a success and if it was not for the kindness of Alan, that I would not have been able to fix my machine. I am forever in his debit.  :thank_you:
