Title: whattizzit? Not sure it's really an IGT!
Post by: shortrackskater on December 30, 2014, 05:57:05 PM
Okay I've been stalking this slot on Craigslist. It's near me and I may go have a look at it tonight or tomorrow.
But... I've never heard of a PENNY video slot by IGT. There is an IGT tag on the side but I've lost the picture the seller sent me. It was mostly unreadable though... no numbers could be made out.
Here's pictures of the slot outside and inside. Is it a Fortune 2? It looks "fortunish" inside but looks newer than my Fortune 1.
Any guesses as to this machine?

It's a Forutne 1. We have one identical to it.

A "Forutne" ? Sounds Italian! :rotfl:
Sorry couldn't just let that one slide...
I thought it looked like mine, but with video...and a handle, which I think is cool. The seller is asking $600, which is ... uh a little steep I think for something that old.
 :thank_you:
But I never heard of an IGT penny slot that pays out pennies... is yours pennies as well?

Yes, it's pennies. It's been up on a rack for 5-6 years now, but I catch a glimpse of it every once in a while.

Seems like ours has little goofy sayings that scroll, I remember talking about it on here. Just things like "Pull my handle for a special surprise" and similar inappropriate things for a slot machine to say...

I remember you writing about this a few years ago. You should pull it out (in all your spare time) and plug the bugger in!

Well I always wanted a penny slot... but never knew there was one like this... and with my history of acquiring slightly odd games, I might have to have this one. Still haven't seen it yet but possible tomorrow. The problem is I don't want to pay a Fortune for it! Get it???  :rotfl:

That would be nice!  :rotfl:
On the other side though, it's too bad that stuff like that machine have little value, or at least, have plummeted in value as compared to what they probably paid for the machine. She may have paid $1000 for this thing years ago and now it's nearly worthless. She probably thinks she's asking a reasonable price ($600) for it. And they think it really is "JUST LIVE VEGAS," when in fact, it's an obsolete  relic and hasn't been on a casino floor in Vegas for three decades. I think the "regular person" slot owner, who just buys one, doesn't normally troll around Craigslist and see that NONE will sell at that price; they'll just sit there. And the average person has no knowledge or insight on the internal parts (mpu's, capacitors, etc) of those machines, and that those parts may be very hard to find now.
But, since I want it, it DOES have some value. Maybe someone like me (but with money) will come along and pay what she wants, or close to what she wants for it. I'll keep watching though...

Keep there name and number.. If you check back in a month or so and it has not sold, they might be willing to listen to your offer.. it's hard for people to understand that there slot machines could loose so much value. I tell them to look at what current machines are selling for.. I have picked up bargains by just patient..

I did go look at it and it's actually in much nicer shape that I thought. The CRT looks great... without much burn in at all and great colors. It takes and pays pennies perfectly and the sound works too. Too bad she's sticking to a higher price. I tried to explain stuff like parts that die after 30 years.
I think she's stuck back in time - seems to think it's like a modern machine.
She didn't want to sell it for $100 which was low since she's asking $600 but she didn't make any other counteroffer.
So I'll be waiting and watching... I know it will sit there.

Off topic but ... I was an  hour short of getting a nice Mills 10 cent machine (early 60's) for $200. I would have bought that on the spot. Found it this morning, texted the owner on the time I could come over. But 5 minutes after I got off work, I got the dreaded text: "sold."  :hissyfit:

I hate those "sold" communications but I guess they are better no text at all after you have taken that long drive.
I experienced the same thing yesterday.  I had a craigslist seller that posted a stand that I use for my slots on Christmas eve.  I replied and spoke to her in the first hour of posting.  She said that she was out of town visiting family and would not be back at home until yesterday.  I gave her my phone number and even offered an electronically transmitted (pay pal) good faith deposit to hold the item.  She said that I did not need to do that.  The stand was mine.  Yesterday I got an email saying that the stand was sold.  I couldn't believe it.  I told her to beware of Karma and wished her a nice day.

Ra.. I've had both happen to me, but the worst one was for a Pinball machine.. I called the seller right after the ad posted. The person said they were currently at work, but would be home within the hour, and that he would hold it for me, and call as soon as he was home.. They wouldn't give me the address at that time, but did the city. I just happen to have a friend live just outside if the area, so I gave him a call.. He said he would run over for me as soon as I got the call and look it over and even pay for it, since I lived 35-40 miles away. Well two hrs goes by and no phone call, so I decide to call the seller back.. I was informed that it was sold and currently being loaded.. I asked what happened to our deal? I was told the person who bought it offered him more $$$$ for it!! I was P O and said thanks for letting counter offer.. All I heard was sorry and they hung up!!!

A few of my craigs list deals have been great   found a  juke boxes 175 miles from home each way  at 1/2 of what it is worth  got the phone number by email from seller , called the person who  pickup call said no box for sale there , red flag #1 , but it was such a good deal I email guy back who told me he need it gone so he could get xmas money , area where it was   tuff area red flag 2, cash only red flag 3 , so we are feeling we are either getting ripped off or robbed, I call local pd  give them address , they tell people there  have never been trouble , so  before I setup meeting pickup , they repost it for 200 less, wife and I jump in van  and head north ,I  pull up  at street leave  money  wallet rings in van and tell her if I,m not out in 5 mins
go for help, people were nice  just someone gave them the juke  they played with it till it blew a fuse, sold it in 2 weeks for over 3x what we paid , so not all craigs list sellers are bad, that was deal #3 that was a winner for us
just my 2 cents

Best Slots you are correct.  Not all craigslist sellers and deals are bad but when it comes to a 30 year old electronic device I believe that caution is in order.  I am in the NYC area.  Perhaps there are more scoundrels per capita here than the rest of the country.  Not all but MANY items that I went to view as a result of a craigslist ad were not as nice as described.  I always call and ask questions and still some people lie.  Now I wait until I get the full sell of the item and their address.  I remind the seller that I have their address and I would be very upset if I traveled a long way and the item was not as described.  I usually get disclosure of several additional problems after that.

Gary:

I sell on craigslist also.  I am sure that you are an honest seller. Of that I have no doubt.   In my area in dealing with these old games in particular, I cant count on both hands the times that a game has been described as mint.  When you get there something is wrong.  Then you hear  "That's the first time that its done that."

Craig's list is fantastic!  I am particularly attracted to the fact that it is free.  I like free.
