Title: Williams Won't Accept Coins 1974 3LG-1 Bars and Stars
Post by: JaeMe on February 06, 2021, 11:06:32 AM
Just got this for my dad.  Was working.  Now it won't accept coins.  They return to the tray.  The Insert Coin light is not lit.  The handle won't pull.  The reset button by the hopper isn't lit.  Please help!  He is nearly 88 and needs something to do.  Any help or suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you!

Can you post a photo of the inside of the machine?
Just for kicks, power off, pull out the hopper and push it back in, making sure it's seated properly.
Was the machine working where you bought it, and then stopped working when you got it home?

It was working when we got it a week or so ago.  Pulled the hopper out and pushed it back.  No luck.  Then I noticed what I thought was a fuse (turns out to be a power relay -- Sigma 67R45-48AC) wasn't seated right.  I pushed it back and then pushed a button on it.  The reels spun and machine worked for a few turns.  Opened the door and the power relay was seated correctly, but I pushed the button.  Nothing happened.  Pushed it again and the reels spun.  Machine worked for a few spins after.  Maybe replace the power relay??  I found one for $150.  I'd hate to replace it and that not be the problem.  Other suggestions?  Thanks, again!!

Don't buy that relay. Let me contact some other NLG members. Stand by!  :propeller:
While I do this, unplug the machine and poke around everywhere you can, looking for any unseated connectors, relays etc. Also check all the fuses at the bottom. Use an ohmmeter to check continuity of each fuse, if you can. Otherwise just look really carefully at each fuse, then make sure they're screwed or clicked in firmly.

If that relay is 4 pole double throw (4PDT), need to see the pins, I sell those on my website for a lot less then $150.

I bet that’s a standard relay.

Do you see any burnt contacts inside the relay cube?

I didn't see any burnt connectors.  It happens after he's just been playing for a few.  The quarters start to drop through to the tray.  When I hit the button on the connector (one sometimes two times) the reels and chain spin.  Then the "arm" on the inside of the door that allow the quarters to fall into the hopper also resets.
Thanks, again, for the help!

Now it's paying out the full hopper randomly.  Time to call it and try to find him a new one?
