I'm restoring a P&M Coin Keno machine, with an RGB Displays Model 1400PC monitor.
No, not a 1400A or 1400B or even a plain 1400...
It's a vertical monitor, but otherwise seems like a computer monitor, not an arcade special.
Got a Zanen RGB 1400 CapKit, but apparently does not cover this version: caps do not match what's on the board.
I must get it working, cannot replace with LCD as the machine uses a light pen to pick numbers.
Monitor was slow to warm up when I got it, but seemed crisp & clear, enough to show me there were
logic board issues to work on. Then, when turning it on, ZIT/CRACKLE/POP/essence-of-burning PCB!
Turned it off instantly, noticing only a green screen with fat white blob in the middle.
Ordered CapKit, then discharged & disassembled, then examined the boards.
As may be visible on the pictures, in addition to lots of dirt & crud,
the corner of the base of a C1755 transistor had arced through the board,
apparently shorting to resistor #147 and/or Pin 12 of the video in connector (#145)
Also, there's some serious backside burning in the area of Capacitor #78 (47uF/63V).
Doing a board clean & cap kit is a little daunting for this old mechanical engineer, but have done
it before and am willing to try it again. But, the other component issues and the apparent unavailability of schematics
or parts lists, makes me pause.
So, three questions to our CRT monitor experts:
1. Anyone out there I can send the boards to for a proper fix?
2. If not, does anyone have correct schematics or part list for this thing?
And perhaps some guidance for my barely competent fingers?
3. Failing all else, can I just use another CRT PC monitor that fits? Remember
this thing is vertically disposed!
