Title: 13 inch flat screen for PE poker problem
Post by: Badbaud on December 09, 2018, 10:59:47 AM
Got a machine in, customer says he purchased a flat screen replacement for his dead tube monitor.
The small remote board says kortek, the flat screen has NO manufacturers logo or name on it.
It has 6 colored wires coming out of the "D" connector that plugs into the monitor and they have been terminated in a standard Ceronix 15 pin monitor connector.
The 12VDC power supply mounted on the back of the monitor does put out 12VDC and the green LED on the monitor remote board does light up.
On the Ceronix 15 pin connector the following wire colors are connected.
pin 1 = REDpin2 = BLUEpin3 = GREENpin4 = BROWNpin5 = BLACKpin6 = WHITE
When the flat screen is hooked up to a PE + poker there is no image and the remote board buttons do nothing.
Are the wire colors in the wrong position? Is the flat screen dead?

Someone page me  :Scratch-Head: ?

I have a Ceronix 15" LCD in my PEII+, but the LCD should show something even if it's "No Signal Input".  There should be a menu button on it, if you press it does a menu appear on the screen?  If not, I'd look at replacing the inverter board, I've had a few of those go bad in Kortek LCD monitors.  Next would be the A/D board, and lastly the CCFL tubes.  I'm assuming your customer bought this LCD used from somewhere basically as is?

Some pictures would be helpful, but wiring wise that sounds about right, red, green, & blue colors, Horz & Vert sync, and ground is all that is needed.

He took his tube monitor to someone and they sold him a flat screen replacement.
Unfortunately he never asked the seller to show him the flat screen actually worked.
He wants the machine back by this Wednesday as the grand kids are coming to town and love playing it.
I am not sure I have the spared boards to get it up and running, maybe I should loan him a tube Ceronix for now?

That sounds like the best solution to this problem for now.

Stripped down the flat screen and found the CFL driver board was inopt.
Replaced the two large caps and got that running.
Display showed "no video signal" which pointed to a bad controller board.
Grabbed a box of 25 controller boards that came from a local casino that a junker had dropped by the shop.
None of them worked, got lines with some but no game display.
Went on to plan B and put in a rebuilt Ceronix tube monitor, customer was happy.
He had got the flat screen for free from a friend that worked in a local casino, never asked if it actually worked.
