CERONIX 2093 in MK5 Blue Hue with Horizontal Lines
« on: January 23, 2021, 08:04:30 PM »
Hi All,

All of a sudden, my CERONIX 2093 CRT fitted to an MK5 has developed a blue hue with horizontal lines. The game is an Indian dreaming which is black however it now looks blue. See attached photo (doesn’t very clearly show the horizontal lines). Can anyone suggest any tips? Or is my monitor on the way out? :(

Thank you!

I am working on a monitor with this exact problem.  It has what are referred to as "K-Film" amplifiers. One for red  one for green and one for blue.  I swapped the blue and red amps and the problem color changed.  Now all I need to do is figure out how to repair my K-Film amplifier or get a new one.  Any Help  out there???  The K-Film amplifier is a multi pin ceramic board about .75"X2" that looks to have a surface mount IC and several surface mount?? resistors?

If I'm thinking right that is a "Precision Resistor Array" and the one for Blue is part # CPR0511
You can download the service manual from Ceronix for free and it has testing procedures for the complete monitor.

Fixed it!
so my monitor was very blue.  It would not adjust blue at all Red and Green would change but Blue was just ON.  Had blue horizontal retrace lines as well.  So pulled the monitor board and swapped the Red and Blue precision array amplifier boards.  Restart and sure enough now I have way too much Red.  So I pull the bad precision array and do some searching.  Looks like it is a part specifically made just for Ceronix monitors,  there may be some available from Columbia.  They are either 18,500$ each or if that price is in Columbian currency about $4.50US so around 10 bucks if it is not an internet scam.
Just for fun I put it under a video microscope and dog if one of the little rectangular regions doesn't look burned. Using the Ceronix service manual I guess it is a 270 ohm resistor.  For kicks and grins I solder one in  and voilà back in business.  So no used ebay chassis for 70$ and no sketchy Columbian electronic part just a 5 cent resistor and back to loosing nickels 10 at a time.
