Ceronix 1492 vs 1490 In my pe+ slant top
« on: October 19, 2021, 04:24:00 PM »
I have a few monitors laying around that need testing.  I have a 1492 (left in picture) that I run in my slant top.  I want to test this 1490 but I am unsure because it has this good size electronic box just laying around in there, looks like it used to be white duct tapped down many years ago, it connects to the input connector wires and looks like it has a 5 pin white plug also, like the one that plugs into the chassis. I'l kinda afraid to put this in my machine until I have a bit of info.  Any have any Ideas? I googled the numbers on the electronic 'box' and came up with nothing.

Just to let you all know, that large device turned out to be a way to flip the video horizontally to a mirror image (left is right and right is left). As I understand it, the monitor is mounted in such a way that the video is reflected off of a mirror. Without the box, the video would be normal and the monitor could be used in another game by plugging the yoke ("yolk", on the printed circuit board) connector directly to the PCB instead of going through the box..

Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new, even for those of us who are chronologically challenged (aka, old).

Richard

The white box is used to expand the horizontal width of the picture. Some of those Canadian tubes were made with a flaw in their yoke winding.
The 1490 was made exclusively for the IGT market, it accepted a digital or analog signal. Unlike the 1492 it has no jumper options to connect to Bally or other games.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I've not seen the Ceronix LCD. Is it pinned for the video/power connectors in your slant top? Does it have the inverted image for the mirror image in your game?

Did you mean 1490?
Every once in awhile a 14" monitor will pop up for sale. Check on this site, FB Marketplace, etc. My video poker has an Electrohome monitor in it, and I've seen other games with RGB brand.
You may also be able to find a older 14" computer monitor (Samsung and Samtron, for example, made a lot of those) with a compatible CRT - though you may have to use your yoke to get the proper matching with your chassis.

Where are you located?
