Title: WBA-11-SS cycles for 36 seconds at power on
Post by: kmarrocco on November 02, 2021, 02:46:28 PM
I have an IGT S+ machine with a WBA-SS-11 bill validator.   At power up the bill validator cycles for about 36 seconds and then stops.  The lights don't come on and it won't even begin to take in any bills.   Any idea on where to start with this one?

36 seconds seems like a long time to me, albeit I have never timed mine. The whine and grind at startup is normal.
With no lights on did you activate the head using a set chip ? Please see Ricks Faqs on the home page, bottom right about using a Set Chip.
if you do this and it works then ignore the rest of my post.

To the point of the 36 seconds I would first remove the head and look at the dip switches to make sure its not in service mode,
If you recently picked up the machine - its possible that the person who sold it to you recently flashed the head for the newer bills and didn't move it out of service mode.

Secondly take note of the firmware - it might be written on the chip or perhaps a label on top of the head. This is not always accurate as people tend to flash the heads and not relabel them - however it might be evident that if the last firmware was for a Bally or something other than a IGT, then the machine might just be parts complete but the head won't be working as its not software compatible.

Finally reseating the head (which happens because you just removed it to look at the dip switches) might also help the issue.

Please post back soon with what you find

Hello and thank you for the reply.
When I bought the machine the guy said it took the older money. It takes coins just fine. I did do a set 15 chip to turn on the validator. I did pull it out and I notice all the dip switch's are all off. Not Shure if any of them need to be on. also the chip in the validator is WBA 11  V2.02   IDO 22/23. Now I have no idea what this all means lolol. The green plaque on the front of the door does not light up eighter the bulbs are good. The validator will not even try to take money. Thank you for any info to get it working. Thanks again Jeff.  :Scratch-Head:

All the switches on the transport unit have to be up, toward the red LEDS,  you can do a test of the wba itself to see if it is working.

pull out the wba unit, pull out the cash can,
flip switches 1-2-3 and 8 down
now insert the wba in the machine, apply power, flip switch 8 up, unit should cycle briefly, now you should be able to insert bills into the unit, if it is working, it will take them in and  deposit them where the cash can would have been.

from the version number you have old software, AND SINCE ITS A WBA-11, YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WAY ACCEPTANCE, GEORGE'S HEAD UP AND TOP TO THE RIGHT.

your unit can be upgraded to a wba12, 4 way acceptance, will accept all new money ,except the new 100.  version 3.75

hope this helps

Jim

I have all the parts you would need to convert, tested working wba head and transport, and new harness.  the harness would have to be replaced, it is located on the shelf assembly.

Hello Jim
What would be the cost to up grade to the wba-12 like you were saying. Thanks Jeff
