Title: New cable help.
Post by: millionaire2k on August 02, 2022, 06:40:10 PM
Hello,

I want to change the dvi- VGA cable that runs from the graphics card to my MLD monitor on my G23.

I see what looks like interference in the picture, so wanted to try a new cable.

So I turn off the machine.
Install this cable in the bottom port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JYXYSSL?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JYXYSSL?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)
turn machine back on
at first BOTH screens display the startup splash screen
then like normal it goes black and displays the loading bar.....

Problem is it showed the loading bar on the TOP screen and the bottom monitor never turned back on.

I then turned off the machine and put back the original cable.  Machine now is working again.

Did I buy the wrong cable?

Anyone suggest a good quality cable?

...and the "interference in the picture" is gone now, right?

No, because I didn't change anything.

I can’t explain why but have ran into the same issue where I changed a cable and the CPU then starting displaying the top monitor as the bottom one and vice versa. As I recall I flip flopped the cables at the CPU.

Typically during the loading bar phase the top monitor is dark. So if your machine thinks the bottom monitor is the top monitor it makes sense it went dark while the top displayed the loading bar.

I would compare/check the pins on the end of the DVI connector you bought.

Is it different from the original one?

Some don't have the 4 pins around that spade.
