Title: 044 Board Sound Issue No Battery Pack Installed
Post by: danatlvc on January 03, 2016, 11:22:22 AM
I have a clean good working 044 BOARD that only gets sound out of the right speaker only with no sub woofer sound either in a 17" upright machine. The board doesn't have the green battery pack installed at BT1 position & looks to of never had one installed. I was wondering if it's this batter pack missing causing this issue or does something else need replaced on it? It's in this board because I've changed 044 boards in the machine & get full sound. Does anybody know what that battery pack function is & is it necessary & possibly why I only get one speaker sound? The other 044 board I tried in the machine had a battery pack installed.
Thanks

Some boards have the battery, some don't.  That is probably not your issue.

Are the Game Kings wired for audio the same as the S2K's? Is there a sound option in the menus for stereo, mono?

Does it have an amp board like the S2K?

I've tried the board with a 6.2 flash board & with a legacy board with 3.0 software & it does the the same thing. It works super aside the sound issue?

It should have the amp board in the top box, try replacing this.

I tried the upper boards, the harness & all that a while back with the same results until I used a different 044 board in it & how I narrowed it down to the board. If I use a different 044 board in this machine I get full sound? Also if I put this board in another working machine it does the same thing with only the right speaker, no left or sub woofer?

Certainly sounds like the issues are following the 044 board, I have had 044 boards go bad causing similar issues.  I just replaced the boards.

Yeah I was hoping it was something simple like the battery pack, but looks like I'm going to have to replace it. This is the 1st 044 I've had witout the battery pack installed & I why asked here. What doe that battery pack do if it's not needed?

It was for tell tale alerts tied in to the casino computer system so the machine could track while turned off

Someone out here should know some possible solutions rather than trashing the board...

I would think there's an audio IC on the board that's gone bad. Whether it's replaceable or not is another story

Did you check for bent pins on the connectors to the backplane?

Here's the schematic of the analog audio section on the MPU board.  Most of these are all surface mount components and are also difficult to troubleshoot without a test rig to check the components in operation.  You can check for physical damage and replace the component if you find anything though.

The pins & connections are all fine & the back plane has been replaced with the same results with this board. This board is super clean & looks near new with no repairs or broken traces etc.
