Cannot Access Menus to Change Options in PE+ Mutipoker
« on: December 29, 2021, 09:59:02 AM »
I have had my machine about 3 years, but have not made changes for a while so maybe I am missing something.  I have my machine at 0 credits, can open the door, and when I press the white test button I can only get a screen for testing outputs.  I wanted to adjust the menus, enable double up again, and have opened and closed the machine probably 20 times trying different things.  Pressing the white button more does nothing.

THe only thing that is unusual is sometimes I will open the door and sometimes it will add a coin or 2 to the machine for no reason.

This is weird behavior for an PE+

The extra credits are usually only added when you push the micro credit button on the coin in optics.
I would check if the optics board is loose or perhaps when you close the door it is pressing against something.

For your other issue the zero credit thing is the right answer.

It is possible that the machine does not know the door is open .... normally this happens the other way - the machine does not know the door is closed due to bad door optics. Some one however could have bound the door optics together to by pass them.
Does the machine say "Door Open" when the door is open ?

When a machine misbehaves this way I would normally run a clear chip through it.
Before doing this.... Power off the machine, pull the MPU and plug it back in and see if the behavior changes.

I agree with Jay here -- I suspect the machine is not seeing the door as open. Have you previously bypassed the door optics?

On the self-test input screen that you can get to, what is the machine showing for the "DOOR OPEN" input?

I appreciate the help.  On the self test input screen the door open is marked as "1", and the screen says door open.  If the image I am trying to upload works, I circled a wire harness that is a bundle that runs along the door (mostly orange).  On that bundle, close to the harness I can usually tap the bundle and get the credits to register (once it gets to five it will deal a hand).

I did pull the hopper out, turn the machine off, and pulled the superboard out and put it back in.  It looks pretty clean overall compared to most of these machines I have seen.  Overall everything plays well (besides needing the flourecent lights replaced), it works with no issues with coins or with bills, I just cant access the menus not to change settings like double up, background colors, etc.

Your picture did not upload. You may need to reduce the size of it in order for it to be accepted by the forum as huge file sizes are not allowed.

It is obviously not typical to be able to tap on a wire harness to have credits added to the machine.  You said you have had this machine for three years -- has it always done that?  Since your picture didn't upload, are you saying that you can get it to add credits and deal a hand with the door open?  Does the machine recognize the door as being closed when you close it from the self test menu?

The more information you can give us, the better we can help you -- right now we're kind of grasping at straws based on the limited information we have.

If you're able to take a video of everything that's going on and post it to YouTube (then post the link here), that would likely be a significant help.  Show everything the machine is doing, including you trying to access the various self test pages and what the machine is or isn't doing.  I'm interested to see if the Self Test Inputs screen acknowledges that you're pressing the Self Test button, although it obviously is to some extent if you're able to get to that page.

Another update, on the self test input screen I noticed the change request is showing a "1".  I can hold down that button and it says zero, but I let it go and it goes back to "1".

One wire on the change button was not connected, it is blue and black but I am not sure where it connects.  Anyway, I then held down the change request button, and found I could hit the white self test and move further into the menus.  I can see I have a few things to clean up like cleaning the connections and on that larger bundle of mostly orange wires, but at least now I can play double up again.

Last, if anyone has the part number or size needed for the fluorescent lights, I would like to get those replaced.  Thank you again.

Many of the buttons on the PE+ machines are wired in series. If one of the buttons in the series is wired incorrectly, it can cause other buttons in the same series to work incorrectly or not work at all.

I would recommend going back to the Self Test Inputs screen, and then move the wires around on the Change button until it behaves correctly (it should normally show a zero unless the button is being pressed). There are three lugs on each cherry switch (the microswitch under the button that gets activated when you press the button down).

Is there only one wire connected to the switch right now? If so, connect the loose wire to one of the open lugs and see if the status on the Self Test Inputs screen changes to zero, and then correctly shows a 1 when you press the button.  If so, you're done.  If not, move the loose wire to the other open lug and see if that resolves the issue.

If there are two wires already connected to the switch, make note of which wire is connected where (so you can get back to where you are now if need be), ignore the loose wire for the moment since stuff is mostly working, and try moving the connected wires around on the lugs until you get the desired results on the test screen.

Sounds like the button is shorted. Check the button out with a multimeter.

Having the wiring backwards and hooked up to the normally closed lug when it should be hooked up to the normally open lug would have the same symptoms.
