Coin in intermittent problem
« on: August 04, 2022, 05:16:10 PM »
Hi, I wonder if anyone sees something wrong with my coin comparator, or has an idea why it behaves this way.  The coins used to drop in consistently, lately, after a while of not using the machine, it seems as though it stops wanting to take coins, the coins just pass through to the tray.  If i fiddle around with the sample coin,  it usually starts taking the coins consistently again for a while, but then after some days, it starts doing the same and stops taking the coins.  Also sometimes when i fiddle with the sample coin, something jams up and the coinds get stuck, if i push on the part where you see the arrow, it drops the coin. usually takes some fiddling with that part to get the coins to consistently pass through.
Is there an adjustment i can make to keep it from jamming, and to have it be less finicky in accepting coins?
Thanks.

There is an axial aluminum electrolytic capacitor on the board. 220ufd 35V I believe. Replace it.
Tony

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

The potentiometer (adjustment dial) for the sensitivity of the comparitor tends to occasionally need to be moved back and forth to clean off its internal contacts.

See the video at the following link for how to do that:

thanks for the video, ill try that.  When looking at that video, if you look at where the arrow points on my picture on my first post, it is pointing to a piece of plastic with a hole in it.  in the video, that piece has something on it, would it be safe to assume that metal piece i see in the video is a weight of some sort?

Yes, there is a little thumbscrew counterweight that's supposed to be there. If it's missing on yours, that could be the issue.

THERE IS A LARGE ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITOR inside the comparator that gets weak and needs to be replaced for optimum performance of the electronics inside the unit.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

For the capacitor, not sure who i could get to check that.  Strangely its been working pretty good over the past week.  Regarding the counterweight, anybody on here have one i can buy? i assume i could put one on myself rather than buy a new coin comparator.

For home use, you don't need the coin comparitor counterweight at all.
