Title: Barrel Lock - Time to replace?

Do barrel locks wear out after a while? I’ve got one that’s grinding (for lack of a better term) when I turn the key; sort of like a bearing has slipped. It’s never happened to me before, so I’m wondering if this is a common thing or not.
