Title: Universal 8515 “Double Thunder” issue with payouts

I have a Universal 8515 model which wasn’t functioning when I received it. I replaced a number of fuses, and now most of it works. The big remaining issue is that after a winning spin, the credits don’t transfer from the “won” display to the player credits. I did just find a users manual for the machine, so I’ll be reading through that soon, but wondering if anyone here knew offhand what the likely culprit was?


Thanks in advance! Also anyone know roughly what year the 8515 was manufactured?

8515 is not a model number, rather a game number. Need to know what mpu you have in that machine. A picture is worth a thousand words!


IF, the machine has the 8116 board, I would suspect you are missing the daughter sub-board at location 1A. Just a guess at this point.

I hit the Service button 9 times and got this sequence on the Win Meter: 99211 90001 99213 90004 91200

Ok, Double Thunder, your game chip 9213.004 has payback of 82.46%. Casino would love that machine.


Does the machine payout from the hopper when a win is hit or does only the win meter display the win and nothing else??

Haha, that's just it, I'm missing the hopper unit, so the coins currently just fall into the base of the machine. Ideally, it would just dispense them into the credits. Is there a configuration option for that? I'm in the process of getting a hopper.

Before inserting coins push the CASHOUT button once so it lights up (providing bulb works) and stays lit. Then insert coins and play. (put a bucket in machine to catch coins) I think then the credits will show up.


You should be getting an error after every win since there is no hopper??? Are you??



If not, maybe someone rigged the machine. 


There is a dip switch on the small sub-board located at position 1A on your board. It has eight switches. If #4 is OFF then you must push the cashout button first for wins to go to credits. If you turn dip #4 to ON the wins will always go to credits. You must perform a RAM clear after changing dips.

The casino's would set #4 dip to OFF so those patrons who wanted to hear the coins clanging in the tray after each win could do so. Then those who wanted credits could just press the CASHOUT before beginning play and all wins would go to credits until CASHOUT was pressed again.
