Mountain of money power supply repair
« on: September 01, 2020, 09:41:29 PM »
Hey I need some help have spent hours on this pulling my hair out. So I have repaired my power supply all voltages are correct pink wire 5 vdc . Grass wire 10v. Issue if I close the door insert coin comes on . It accepts coin and then tilt light comes on push reset yellow button it goes of but then has soon has I put coin in it tilts. Now if I go inside machine with door open and push the red service switch I can get credits to come up and make the feels slim and it wins some credits then the rest of the buttons light and can out button, but has soon has I close door and lock it out quarter in then tilts. I have turned power of and push in reset on CPU turn on and hold for 5 seconds doing a ram reset there is no joy in doing this it's still the same. Also my display has no codes just.the comes are lighting up I'll attach picture. If you have any input it would be appreciated.in the picture is all I get on display.

Sounds like a couple of problems. First, check your orange wire at 7-seg display for 24vDC.
Second is the coins inserted and then TILT. (You can't see an error code due to no display) There are two optics in the coin track, if both optics do not see the coin drop "in a window of time" they produce a TILT. (IF you pressed the green test switch three times and turned the jackpot key switch in this test mode you have changed the timing) This timing is to make sure no cheat coin-on-a-string trick is being used.

And here is another problem I've run into. That big black plug in front of the power supply. Remove it and make sure no pins have been pushed in and not making connection. This can cause all kinds of power issues to hardware in the door, i.e. 7-seg display.

Sorry I took so long to respond, been busy lately!

Here is a trick I have used for testing machines.
You can open the door and pull out on the white door switch (cherry switch) It will stay locked out and simulates (makes contact) that the door is closed. Then add a piece of electrical tape to the door lock optic. Block the optic.
This makes the machine believe door is closed and locked. Insert Coin will flash telling you the machine is ready for play.
Now drop a coin in the slot and watch those two coin-in optics with the door open, they should each flash a little red LED showing they saw the coin pass. If LED is always ON, clean the optic and see if then works.
A third optic is down below to count coins deflected to an overflow bucket casinos used to have in their slot stands, so hoppers didn't overflow. Use this optic as a spare if still there, it is not needed for home use.

Thanks a million uniman for all the info you have supplied! I have 24v on Orange wire. I will use your methods and report back on my findings. Once again thanks for the tips.

Ok one of the coin optics down I replaced with the other optic and they both blink now but when I put coin in still went to tilt so I did the jackpot switch but I now have three wires Orange red black no key for lock so schematic looks like Orange and black together then to reset red and black possibly. So then I could not get wires to do anything with 3 pushes of green button never heard a signal or possibly it comes up on display board? So I reset from switch and machine works but display still same only one segment only on credit meter and last game and coins played nothing at all in win meter. Possibly ic chips?? And thanks for helping me out this machine has been down for a while I fixed power supply got all parts from NTE. But now its at 90% so almost uniman and it's my birthday tomorrow I'll be 55 so yippee got this thing almost solved if you got any ideas on the display that would be great I do have other voltages also but Orange is 24.3 volts.dc. Other wires are between 3.6 and 5v.

(IF you pressed the green test switch three times and turned the jackpot key switch in this test mode you have changed the timing)
DON'T DO THAT NOW!! With no 7-seg lights your blind.

I'm working from memory here, no longer have machines. There are sooooo many things that can cause these issues!
Could be bad 7-seg
Could be bad mpu board. i.c.'s on board could be issue.
Eproms should be ok, they have a check at startup for bad code.

Assuming 7-seq is OK, and board OK, and power supply OK, then the wiring would have to be the issue. My two areas of concern I've seen before; The big black plug connecting door to machine, (pins pushed down)AND, I've seen coins or screws fallen behind board at the edge connectors causing a short. Won't hurt to pull the board and then unscrew the board case frame from the backwall and see if anything there.
After that, it would have to be trial and error with replacing board, then 7-seg, to find the issue.

What the hell happened to my post!!!

Ok, DO NOT ATTEMPT test #3, I meant if you played with it before the timing may be off now. With no LED's your blind with the tests.

Looks like either mpu board problem or 7-seg display is bad. Still, check wiring all the way to mpu as stated above.

Uniman I have checked all that with coin and black plug no pins out of place but will look on schematic and maybe it will show wires to main plug. Make sure I have continuity up to display from pinot on main cpu harness. Will post what I find thanks for your input it is much appreciated!

I would then lean mpu board problem. Could be the display but seeing one segment on the display has me leaning problem on board.
I'm no board man and I've not had any slots for a year now. Not sure where you could find a replacement.
