Post by: luckyspin09876 on January 22, 2015, 07:41:19 PM
Can some one help me my bill acceptor is squealing very badly. What is safe to use to lube the belts and gears. Also is there any adjustment I need to do. Thank you all for al the support and help.

Is it not working or just making a lot of noise? They all grind and squeal somewhat not like they are silent.
Do you have another to compare it to? There are a lot of different theories for lubes here: Graphite, wd 40, oil, sewing machine oil, lard, spit etc.....They make noise but if they are not working correctly some "light lubrication" would be proper. Less is better in this case. Oil draws dirt and dust, wd 40 dries out, s/m oil same as above, lard cooks great in a cast iron skillet! And Buzz is the one with lubricating saliva.  Everybody has their own opinion, so like the last crusade "choose wisely". But err on the side of caution, don't get too much junk on anything else.

Minor clarification - I think Buzz said his saliva is used for cleaning the dbv optics, not lubrication.

I believe that's right.

DON'T lube the belts! They need to be "grabby." I used a very mild soap on a Q tip and just rotate a gear (I use a glove) and let the Q tip pass along the belts.
I'd use a good grade sewing machine oil on the gear shafts but I'd use the TEENIEST drop possible. You don't want to spew oil around in there. I've never had a squeaky BV before. Have you checked to make sure there isn't a jam in there?
What is the make and model of the BV?

(Can the moderator move this topic to the proper BV section once we determine the make?)

I believe this to be right. Do not use much lube!
