Title: Sigma HR-IM partial dark monitor
Post by: Arthur Dent on February 19, 2020, 07:45:52 PM
Hi,
I’ve recently acquired a Sigma HR-IM 10s or better poker machine.
I bought it at auction, priced right because in the description, it showed the top two thirds of the screen black and a note that it needed work.
I ordered a cap kit from The Real Bob Roberts and decided to check voltages.
While checking voltages the screen slowly cleared from the bottom up and after 5 minutes no longer had any black. The screen looked fine and the game works fine.
Every time I turn it on cold, it takes 5 minutes for the screen to clear.
My question is: It’s a TEO1 monitor, will the cap kit  fix this problem or do I need to replace some other component?
Also, is there anywhere I can download a manual for it?
If anyone has some used parts for sale, I need a round hold switch housing.
I will be in Las Vegas the rest of the week. Is there anyone that would have parts for Sigma machines?
Thanks for any help.

As there is really no way to say I definitely know a cap kit will fix your issue, the symptoms you stated sound very similar to bad or going bad caps. Even if they don't fix your issue, it is an easy thing to do and pretty cheap. I would do it anyway. When a cap dies or is dying, it will change its capacitance or take longer to charge and normalize, so this is probably the old caps. Make sure to follow the polarity and be sure if you replace a bi-polar cap, you replace it with a bi-polar cap, that would just cause more issues. I have these documents I dug up when I did mine, I will attach them. These monitors are not widespread so most people haven't even heard of them.

Short answer: yes, it will likely fix your issue, if not you aren't out that much money.
