MK6 Base rom question
« on: August 31, 2021, 02:26:38 AM »
Hi everyone.

Im in New Zealand and we require our Mk6 boardsets to be qcom. I have the qcom tools and have been using them for a few years to qcom my own machines when I want to change roms.

I have a tricky rom set I cant qcom. It has system roms that have yellow stickers whereas all others Ive see are white. Also it boots to a copyright screen before the game which is also not on normal NZ roms. Ive tried to qcom it the way I always do and it does not work. The menus test menus are also different and it has a hash key requirement which ive never seen either.

This was a working set when I purchased it years ago and it only stopped working because i swapped the boards over for other games so I know its not a fault etc.

Here are some pics, any help is appreciated.
Thanks

This one might be using the ASP protocol rather than QCOM. I had a look at a similar game inside MAME's debugger (NZ Player's Choice Gold Edition) and that version doesn't seem to use QCOM either, but has some text strings mentioning ASP.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Please elaborate more. What is ASP and any idea how to enable the games? Thanks

Aristocrat Serial Protocol, basically a proprietary system that AFAIK no-one has cracked yet. ASP is mainly used in casinos e.g. Dunedin, Melbourne (Crown), Sydney (Star) etc. as opposed to local venues, but maybe NZ eventually went with ASP in locals as well, unless of course you just happened to end up with a casino version. Without looking through base chip's code it's hard to tell what protocol it's trying to use.

Interesting however these are NZCB (bar) not NZCS (casino) roms. Although I have both cs and cb roms here and can qcom them fine. The plot thickens.

Yeah, the Platinum set also had NZCB on the label. Wonder if that one fails like yours or whether it can be QCOM'd...
