17" GameKing Chop Top Cabinet Refurb
« on: August 08, 2020, 02:50:20 PM »
Hi All,

Just wanted to share some pics on a project I just finished today. Picked up a junk 17" GameKing cabinet off Ebay a few weeks ago with the goal of building an entirely new game from scratch. Took the cabinet down to bare metal; cleaned and repainted. Fixed issues with the wiring and the power distribution box plus a few other things... here's a list:

IGT Board Bill Validator Bezel Light IGT I Game 17'
IGT 17" Game Side Glass Replacement LED Strips
6'' Inch 400W Max Speaker
IGT Button Set Game King 17 or 19" LCD 12V LED
JCM Bill Validator for IGT Game King, WBA12
HP L1710 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor Display VGA
IGT MICRO TOUCH TOUCH SCREEN Board
3M 17” Capacitive Touchscreen Panel
NOVRAM MicroTouch Serial Cable
JCM WBA 12/13 Wiring Harness
GameKing Key Lock set
Ballasts
17” BV Bezel
80MM Fan
Side Speakers
GameKing Glass (Belly and Chop Top)
IGT Power Supply
Ticket Printer
Candle
Cabinet
Door
Wiring Harness
Backplane
MPU
Power Distribution Box
IO Cards
Stereo Amplifier
Netplex Topbox Distribution Board

(not all was purchased; any existing items were cleaned up/fixed as needed)

So here are the before pics...

Kudos Marc. Looks nice. Don't you just love the feeling of accomplishment. What did you paint it with? I did a 19" with Rustoleum rattle can. Turned out pretty good, a few splotches but hardly noticeable when it was all back together. Thanks for sharing.

Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Thanks RB! I tried something new this time - a matte black latex thru an air sprayer. First time using an air sprayer and I think it came out really well; super easy and no drips/splotches.

Looks really nice, good work.  For you next upgrade you might consider replacing the fluorescent tube lighting with LEDs.  Runs cooler, uses less power, & looks better.

Great job.

I love taking someone else's junk and restoring it back to it's full glory again!

I've resurrected a few Game Kings and S2000's and made them look new. Great feeling when you finally get to play it!

Thanks for sharing!

It was a lot of fun - and I could not wait to finally play it this weekend! Also did my first 3D design - created and printed 3D clips to hold the LCD monitor to the door. See pics above. Really proud of that - and it saved me a lot of money!

I know this is an older post. But I was wondering about the monitor set up. Is there a detailed forum on it? Ive searched but can not find much on this. I am very interested in doing this. Looks like it would cost a lot less than the drop in LCD conversion.

I picked this up a couple months ago. Someone put the Dell in it. The mounting is pretty rough, but it works and I was able to get it positioned in the door opening pretty good. It looks good from the front anyway.  I am going to try to take the display out of the desktop housing and try to mount just the display. So it is just a standard non-touch Dell desktop monitor with a glass touch panel taped to the front, using the 3M touch board. Using a touch monitor like the OP did makes more sense, but if you have monitors and touch panels laying around it works.

See what you can get used, cheap and have at it. It appears everything just hooks up no problem. The GK is VGA so standard monitors look to be good.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Thanks Tony! Its gonna be a project for later but I think I am gonna try it. Who used a touch monitor? I did not see that. All I saw was the reg monitor with a 3m touch pad being used. So I dont have to do that and i can just use a touch monitor? In the end all I am trying to make happen is LCD conversion on the cheap lol. The drop in looks nice but the cost is high and then they wanna give me the shaft to ship it to AK.

You are right. I thought the OP 1710 was touch, it is not. Used the 3M touch board.
