Title: Bill Validator not working properly
Post by: diver7325 on March 10, 2021, 06:30:41 PM
I finally got my machine running this weekend.  On Sunday, after I got the wiring harness issue solved, I was able to put a $20 bill in the bill validator and it took it just fine.

Today, after moving the machine, every time I put a bill in ($1's, $10's, or $20's) the bill validator, it takes it all the way in and then kicks it out.  The light is one and when I turn the machine on, it goes through what sounds like the startup and test.  It just acts like it isn't reading the money when it is put in...

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!

What machine and BV do you have??

It is an IGT S-plus machine with Triple Triple Jackpot game.  Has SS7672 chip in Reel Slot and SP731 in the Game Slot on board.  The Bill Validator has Japan Cash Machine Co., LTD on it and has a model number of DBV-200-B023.

As earlier stated...it worked fine right after I got the machine running (took a $20 bill without any problem)...now it takes the bill in and then kicks it out.

Have you opened the top of the DBV200 head and cleaned the optics with a dampened  cloth of only water?

Is it the same $20 that worked ?
The reason I ask is that money has evolved and you need the right firmware in your validator for it to be accepted.
There are also calibration cards available for most acceptors

The DBV's that haven't been upgraded only take the $20 bills with small heads.

They won't accept the new $20's with the big heads on the bills.

For bill acceptance testing purposes, it's best to just use a one dollar bill to see if the darn thing works...haha

I have been doing a lot of reading and research on this issue...after reading other posts...I think that the cash box optics are bad.

Is there anyway to bypass them to see if it will work then?  If they are bad, I will want to replace them, but don't want to get different ones if they are still good.

Does it take coins ?
If so you your optics are fine.
The cash boc optics will behave the same as a door open.
If the door is open the game won’t play.

when you first apply power does the unit cycle, it should make two distinct cycles, one a heavy grinding noise, the second a gentle noise.  if so then the unit is doing what it should be doing.

with the power on, after the power on cycle, remove the cash can, it should start to cycle immediately and continue for about 10 more cycles, after this it will stop on its own, if it does this, then the cash can optics are good. when the cash can is removed, the unit see it via the optics and is searching for it.

as for the unit taking bills, do the stand alone test for the 200 head, remove the bottom screw holding the head to the transport, undo the connector on the right side of the head, undo the black connector on the left rear of the head,  flip the unit over, you will see two sets of dip switches, on with 10 another with 6, flip # 6 in the 6 bank of switches to the down position (all of them should be in the up position), now with the white power connected to the head, hold the head in your hand, turn on power to the machine, flip switch #6 to the up position, unit will cycle for a second, now you should be able to insert bills into the unit, it should take them in and deposit them out the back, you can determine which bills the unit will accept doing this test, if it rejects a certain bill, then  more than likely it is not programmed for that bill. Pay attention to the noise the head makes when you flip it over to do your tests, sometimes the power connector is dirty and intermittent and when you move it around it will take it out of this test and not work. so try a second time .

Hope this helps.

Jim-

When I take the money box out, it only makes a sound one time and then stops...I have not had a chance to run the test on the bill validator yet, but it will not take any money...it pulls it in and a second later, kicks it back out.  However, it did take a $20 once right after I got the machine running.

I will keep you posted on the what the test shows...and whoever ask the question, it does take coins, just not paper money.

If it takes coin then the cash can (and door) optics are fine.
I would however make sure the door to where the cash can is, stays closed.
They usually remove the cash can locks when the slot is sold.
Use a small piece of electrical or duct tape to ensure it’s closed.

Again per Marks advise work with a older $1

I did the test on the Bill Validator tonite...it took the one dollar bill after a couple of tries...it would take it about once out of three or four tries...but at least I know that it will take them...what would cause it not work all the time?  it is getting ready to go bad?  After I put it all back together, it took a few tries, but it finally took a one dollar bill, but once it did accept it, it took about 4 tries for it to be moved to the cash can...

Does anyone have any idea what I can do it get it to work properly all the time?  At least I know the bill validator is working but i'm not sure if the transport is working properly all the time.

Thanks again for all the help!!

The power supply could be undersized.
The power supply for a dbv145 will sort of work with a dbv200 sometimes. The connectors are all the same.
Visually they almost look the same except the 200 version has fins on it for greater heat dissipation.
In reality the 200 version also has a higher amp output.
So if you have a DBV200 check the power supply to make sure it has the fins.

The head could also be out of calibration. There are calibration cards you can buy that will adjust them. Most people send the heads out for firmware upgrade and calibration.
Some shops even just do a head exchange.

I have a ITG S+ Machine double Dimond Deluxe I have replaced the following parts. the BVD 2000, coin optics, coin comparator and processor board 10 mg. the machine makes sounds gives credits by pushing the white button on the coin optics and passes the following test. out put 11-1 12-1 13-1 for the optics and door. the coin comparator never turns on and the BVD 2000 never lights up or takes any bills. when I put it in standalone test it accepts all bills with exception of the 5 dollar. also when i do the input test 26 the lights on the bill acceptor light up. so my goal is to fix both the BVD2000 and have it take bills when attached to the machine and to have the machine accept coins. please help tell me if I am missing something. I also used the B/V on off chip as well and the code dose read 9-1

Use your set chip to set the denom.  Comparitor does not lite when door is open.

I used the set chip labeled set005 and I bypassed the door optics so the door always reads open by cutting the one optic out and running the wires together two by two so test 13-1 always reads 1 until I disconnect it and it reads 0. and the coin competitor is showing no power and rejecting coins. the BVD2000 is still not taking anything and its like its in a tilt state
