Japan Cash Machine help needed
« on: August 08, 2019, 12:40:18 PM »
Have a Japan Cash Machine validator model DBV-200. Doesn't want to work. When I recently bought the machine, the guy I bought it from would wiggle a couple of wiring connectors and would occasionally get to boot up with what sounded like a swirling noise, but when door was closed it wouldn't take any bill. Where do I start will this? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Shoot a couple photos of the BV and post them.  :propeller:

Here are the photos. The 2 green lights come on, but it won't pull in the bills.

You have a poker game, 99% of the time DIP switch #10 on the underside of the black BV head must be turned on for the DBV200 to work properly with a video game.
The switch is off for reel games.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Yes, a IGT double bonus poker. Guy I bought it from claimed it did work, but we all have heard that one many times. So you are referring to a switch under the unit? And I should remove it and make sure it is switch on? Thanks

Yes, under the bill head, there are two banks of DIP switches, a bank of 6 (all off) and a bank of 10 (1-9 off, 10 on).

Pulled out the bill validator. Unplugged the 2 wiring connector sockets. Turned it over but could find any switches. Did notice the lever on left side with red cap and flipped it back and forth a few times. Put it back in and pushed the lever, on left, to upper position. Plugged in both connectors. Shut the door, turned on the machine and heard the bill validator cycle up. Put in a couple of ones and it took them and gave me 4 credits. Doesn't take the newer bills with large portraits, will have to go to the bank and get some older ones. So for now it is working. Some of the contacts on the plugs may have been dirty, removing them and putting them back in may have cleaned them?

The head is mounted to the bill transport by one small screw in the front.
Remove that screw pull out the black bill head to see the underside of the head where the switches are.
If it only takes ones you do not have switch 10 turned on.

Well before I could get to the bank for older bills, it quit working. When I turned on the machine it just made a slight whimper. When it was working and taking one dollar bills, it would cycle up about 4 times in a strong manner. So I pulled it out and cleaned the contacts on the plugs with contact cleaner. Removed the bill validator from the transport, #10 switch was in the on position, as in photo. My thought was since the large portrait bills were printed many years after the bill validator was manufactured was the reason it couldn't read them. Any ideas for it? What is causing it not to cycle up?

Did it have a large chip plugged into the bottom, if so what version of software was printed on the label on top of the chip.
If there was no chip then the head gets software upgrades via a programming cable from a older XP machine connected to a RS23 port.
When software is changed on a DBV200 head the optics must be calibrated with special calibration paper.
My shop can upgrade and calibrate those heads and verify they work in a game.
It could also be the black power supply that powers the bill head and transport is weak and not providing enough current to spin the motors and their gears.
It could also be that your cash can needs to be opened up and every moving part needs to be lubricated with a drop of light oil.
A updated 200 head will take the new $20 bills with no problems.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll give them all a try. What is the purpose of the lever on the left of the transport? Appears it engages some of the gears in the unit. Should it be in the upper or lower position when in operation. I think it was up when I had it working. Thanks

It has to be up so the transport engages with the cash can.
