Title: mld screens not working in universal slants
Post by: 474lsa on March 27, 2021, 04:15:10 PM
Hi All,  A friend of mine just got in a batch of universal slants that have 3.0 brainboxes running family 20 software.  We are attempting to convert them back to family 14.  The issue is the 22" mlds will not communicate with the family 14 os on the brainboxes.  In the diagnostic screens the lower monitor will not display any stats, all boxes say NA.  When a mld game is loaded the machine errors out as not having an mld display.  these machines were running mld content as a family 20 with no problems.  We have tried swapping every conceivable cable and component and now believe that the mld screens may have an updated firmware on them that will not work with family 14.  The units in these cabinets have a sticker that lists a firmware of 2.6. all other mlds we can find in his shop list a firmware of 2.2.  Anyone have any insight?

Only idea I can think of is to dumb down the mld firmware to 2.6 so the mlds get detected?
That's my guess.

What if you load up with family 20 OS's and try the Family 14 licenses?

Would that work?

I don't believe the os's are interchangable.  I am.going to try swapping an older firmware monitor in to a machine tomorrow to try and confirm our suspicions.

IGT WOULD do that! :banghead:

Just so they wouldn't be "backwards-compatible"  and everybody had to get the new models.
