Title: Windows XP
Post by: t28c34 on December 23, 2021, 04:47:42 PM
I have a Bally 5500 That I been tinkering with and got working. Now to tackle the progressive system, it looks like everything is there for it but I'm guessing it has to be programed. It only reads empty when the machine is on. I kind of understand why XP would have to be used, but isn't there a way or has anyone re programed it to newer windows versions? I found one of my old laptops that I think has XP on it, but I can't find the cord for it. I can get one online but for like 25 bucks, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

No need to use windows XP

The program called PSP is a dos style program.
Will work equally as good on Windows 10
The usual problem is that newer PCs don't have a real serial port.
Results can be sporadic with the USB to Serial Cables primarily because when you plug in the cable it might recognize it as com5 and I think PSP can only work with com ports 1 to 4.

1. Do you have PSP ?
2. Between the serial port and the mikohn you need a serial cable with a cross over ? I usually buy a straight through cable cut it in 1/2 and make the mod in the middle.
If you need details on the latter I can direct you to the right post.

Let us know.

Thanks Jay, I haven't made or gathered anything together yet, so yes, I can use any help I can get. I've been reading what I can find and get a little confused, but I'm sure once I dive in, I'll get it.

Do you know if you have a CHAMII or a CHAMII+

The II+ is stand-alone the non plus requires the unit to be connected to a link controller.

I believe the eprom would have a label on it stating what it is.

Nice old progressive unit you have there!

"Results can be sporadic with the USB to Serial Cables primarily because when you plug in the cable it might recognize it as com5 and I think PSP can only work with com ports 1 to 4."

I remember that I was able to change the number of the COM port to lower one from a higher port number when I was playing with these things.

Had to change the COM port # in the device properties under "Device Manager" in Windows to get communications to work between the PC and the CHAMII+
