Title: Bally 831-ZE - coin mech denom identification
Post by: flux2 on April 10, 2022, 06:08:51 PM
I have a Bally 831-ZE that I’m trying to get working. I installed (soldered) a new power cord and it has power. It seems to have several issues and I’m new to these EM machines. I have started going through the information in the links provided that point to the old site.

One of the first issues I found has to do with the coin mechanism.

The machine itself says 25 cents on the door and I’m quite certain the hopper is set up for quarters. But…..

A. Quarters almost always get rejected and fall straight to the coin tray and not the hopper.
B. I removed the mechanism to reveal the coil behind it and found have written “5c” in marker on the metal.

My question:
How can I tell if I have a quarter or nickel mechanism? Both denom coins will go through, but only nickels consistently go into the hopper.

Thank you

if it's the most common type/brand of coin mech, exploded parts diagrams are here:

Thank you for that.

It's actually a different brand (coin acceptors inc).

But, I did look up the coin mechanisms site online and found an informative video via YouTube that it helpful too.

I'm going to see if that and the pdf you provided will help me determine if I need a new mech or if I can make adjustments to the one I have to make it work with quarters.

Most likely it is a nickel mechanism, if it has a nickel sticker and they work correctly.

You could try to adjust it, but the counter balance will be looking for nickels
There’s a little adjustable slide on back. Believe it kicks coins in one of two directions.
You might be able to cause a quarter to travel to the coin in switch by maladjustment
of the slider.
