Title: s2000 newbie
Post by: jcm55 on February 24, 2024, 03:03:43 PM
Been reading lots here and am thinking I want to acquire a s2000 with both coin in / out and TITO, with split pay set up for cashout.  Haywire Deluxe is my fav if I can find one, but would consider others.

A few questions that I didn't find immediate answers to in the FAQ or search:

1. I love the idea of coin in / out, and I'm pretty mechanically & electronically savvy.  But would love to hear others' thoughts on whether it's just too much hassle in terms of reliability and maintenance in the long run.
2. I'm interested in remote access.  Is ArduinotTITO the best option in 2024?  Seems like Bettor TITO Deluxe is discontinued, and even if I could find one, it's near impossible to get the app on your phone anymore.  Wondering about level of difficulty for the Arduino option -- I have some Arduino experience.
3. Just to double check my understanding: The machines generally have the ticket printer and reader installed in them already, and the various TITO kits just provide the brains / backend.
4. I'm within striking distance of Reno, and I would have expected a fair number of s2000s for sale there.  But there's virtually nothing on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.  I guess this is because, while it's legal to acquire any age / number of machines in Nevada, resale is limited to 2 units / year?  The various outfits in Ohio look great, but I was hoping to avoid the big shipping charge.  Any other places I should be looking out this way?

Thanks for your help!

1. I have all of my S2000 machines setup for coin and TITO using split pay and I think it's great. I find it to be very reliable. You may have to iron out a few minor bugs with an unknown hopper when you set it up.

3. Machines you find will usually have a bill validator, but not always a printer. Seldom a TITO if purchased from someplace like craigslist. These are things that can be easily added, or if purchasing from a dealer specify what you want.

4. Nevada really sucks when it comes to buying slots, unless you buy from a private party. I'm not sure if dealers there will sell to non-residents. If you don't mind a long drive, take a look at craigslist in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay area. You can often find slots for sale there, however the prices are often high.
