I changed my G20 MLD from CCFL to LEDs
« on: July 28, 2018, 03:17:04 PM »
I ordered the led kit from eBay which came from Pacific Illumination and installed them today and I must say I'm very satisfied with the outcome.
It wasn't too difficult considering the complexity of the monitor and it only took about an hour or so to finish, Most of the time was in the cleaning of the gunk that was on the screens and I eliminated 3 fans and 16 cclf's and the inverter and the monitor runs a lot cooler now and looks about the same as it was before.

Thanks Matt, I'm going to order another kit for my other machine and I think that it's a great price for the led kit and it was fun to do.

Looks great!  Nice work.  I've ordered some stuff from Harry (Pacific Illumination) in the past.  He's a good guy.

Interested on this, to cut down on the noise.  Those dam fans are so loud.  I'm going to order one to convert mine.

I ordered one more kit for my other G20 and can't wait to clean out all that gunk on the screens and get rid of those dark spots.

How do you remove the monitor on a G20?  Been trying to figure it out before I start removing all the tie wraps and stuff.  I want to disassemble it to clean the casino gunk behind the touhscreen glass and replace the fans.  I've also ordered the LEDs in case the cfl's ever go bad.

hi Rick, It's easy there are 4 screws holding the monitor in the door frame and some small screws on the bottom plastic bezel I have two different doors on my two machines and two different mounts one just kinda falls out after removing screws the other frame I have to pry the monitor out. Once you get the monitor out of the frame you can lat it flat on bezel and remove the small screws from bezel and then remove the the frame that holds the touch screen after you remove the back cover and touch screen ribbon. It shouldn't be a problem to complete.

Great I will give it a go this weekend.  Mind posting a photo of the 4 screws?

* My bad, 4 nuts are for the SMLD's, not G20.

4 nuts.. They're in the upper and lower corners of the angle brackets on each side of the monitor. 7mm, the lower left is a pain if you try to use just a regular 7mm socket on an SMLD.

I can post a pic later or tomorrow of them if good ol Dale doesn't.

Depending on the door your machine has the screws are in different places.

Sharing my disappointment in the LED kit.

Spotlight LEDs
Washed out colors

Yeah, I know this is an older topic, but I was curious to know if anyone else has made this conversion with their MLD monitor?

I have a Kortek KTL220MD-03 MLD monitor in my G23 that I'm considering modifying, but wanted to get some more opinions before I do.  Rick did you ever get yours done?  If so, are happy with it?  I got a bit spooked when I saw MrBellMan's outcome.  Don't want to spend $100+ risk damaging my monitor if that's what it's going to look like when it's done.

My CCFLs are working fine, but I like the idea of using LEDs to reduce heat and power consumption.

Cartman, you've had yours done for awhile are you still happy with it?

Hi, I am very happy with mine the only time I can see the spots on the screen is when it's all white, during game play I cant tell the difference and I did both of my G20"s and they run so much cooler with less fans.

Thanks Dale. I'm glad you're happy with yours.  It think the only time the screen is white is when it boots up.

I wonder if MrBellman ever figured out why his didn't turn out so well or if he got it resolved?

I'm not in a big rush to do it since my CCFLs are still working well.   I think I'll hold off a bit and see if he replies or if anyone else who may have done it has any feedback on their experience.

It looks like removing the monitor from the door is a bit of a task in itself.

I tore my G23V2 monitor apart yesterday to replace the inner LCD panel and it turns out the KTL230MD-03 is already equipped with LED back lighting.  I'm glad I didn't order the kit first.  Here's a pic of the stock LED panel for it.

Just checked online for a kit through Pacific Illumination and they appear to be out of stock at the moment.

I tore down a G20 Display because my backlights were blinking. Figured it to be bad tubes or a flakey Inverter, so now would be a good time to do the upgrade.

Hoping to get in touch with them soon.

Glad everyone is liking their conversions so far.

PI has been out for awhile.

I have this inverter out of my SMLD when i converted to LED's. It was working fine. I even re-capped it.

It's available

Hello!

Did you removed all fans & heats sinks?
Where did you take the power for the LEDs?

Thanks!
