You need to upgrade the firmware on the blackfin controller, otherwise you will just get errors on the buttons. When I upgraded my G20, I just bought a known working blackfin controller that had the right firmware on it along with the buttons.

That's not the firmware.  You need the right boot chip which is the little square chip with a sticker on it, you need at least version BFB00004 or higher.  And the firmware inside the controller (there is no way to know that unless you plug it into the system and view the version number under the admin menus) is BFDB006E or higher.

Hi Rick i had a question, once you obtain BFDB006E how do you update the firmware on the machine? So updating the firmware has nothing to do with changing data on the BFB Chip?

No, the little boot chip is like a bios, it boots the controller, then the firmware is like the OS.  The firmware is in a flash memory module on the blackfin controller.  You will need an IGT firmware flash tool that you attach to the backplane through USB.  If you have never done this kind of thing before, I would have someone who has done it do it for you.  You can send them your blackfin controller to have it re-flashed.  You can brick your blackfin controller if you flash the wrong thing to it.  A while back a vendor was selling the software, it's called "CVS" if I'm not mistaken.  You will also need the firmware files to flash the blackfin controller.

Thanks for the info Rick, Question. The software for firmware flash tool is called CVS? was that the IGT brand software tool or some aftermarket software tool? do you have any OE part number for IGT Firmware Flash Tool? is this similar for the AVP 3 reel for BFRD0030?

The actual software is called "CSV" (not CVS like originall posted)  it is IGT's OEM software for the AVP cabinets.

I have asked this same question before and got no answer.  There is surely someone out there who knows what software is needed and the step by step process for doing this.

While I don't have the software to do it, I've seen it being done at a local dealer who was upgrading a few button panels.  It is not a big mystery.  The hard part is getting the software and firmware files to do it.

It is a windows based program.  You connect the pc to the cabinet's backplane (just remove the usb cable from the mpu and plug it into your pc).  Power up and the program will show you a list of all the peripherals that can be flashed with the program like validators, printers, dynamic button panel, etc.  You select the item you want to upgrade and then select the firmware file.  Then the program flashes the firmware and it's done.  Like I said, no big mystery, getting the necessary programs is the issue.  Also I've been told that the earlier versions of the software may not support all peripherals, I don't know what version is what though.

I might know a guy I can get the software from, not sure about the firmware files though. If NLG is interested in adding it to the downloads section, if I can get it, I will provide

If it's copyrighted software/firmware it can't be put on NLG's file system.
