Successful EEPROM mod - 3902 board
« on: March 11, 2022, 10:31:35 AM »
I know I'm a bit late to the game but I'd like to thank moderator Tilt for the instructions on how to do the EEPROM mod. I no longer have to swap the EEPROM on the motherboard when changing out games. I have to admit my eyes are not the same anymore :) Had to bring out the ol' magnifying lens to do the soldering but I took my time and end result was a success. Just want to express my gratitude here to all the folks that helped me out with my other setup issues. Once again, thanks to all that helped me out sort out my issues with setting up the TITO device.

Thanks for the report.  Glad it's working out well for you.  It's nice just to be able to swap the MPU trays out to change the game out.  Just don't get in a hurry and forget to power down before removing and replacing the tray!

I try to make it a habit to always power down when working on it. Question. Am I able to get a Gameking software for my machine? If so what happens to the button layout functions since it has 2 rows versus one on an original gameking cabinet? Would the MPU mod also apply to Gameking software?

Yes, GK software would only utilize the bottom row of buttons. You can remove the upper row or just leave them.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

When swapping out the whole board, I had some that I have to adjust the screen (up, down, left, right) to get the screen centered. I have my LCD monitor set for "auto adjust" but some games require me to manually set them. When I swap back to previous game I now have to enable "auto adjust" to center the screen. Is this normal or is there something I can do to prevent this?

The reason for that is one of the boards has an old video FPGA configuration PROM (U17).  AFAIK the latest version is 70702202A1 Rev A, 70702201 Rev A is also compatible with 70702202A1.    The earlier version 70702200 Rev A will cause the screen to shift to the left when put into a machine that at has a monitor scaled for 70702202/1.  Your best bet is to replace the early one with a later one.  Then you won't have to readjust the screen settings.

If you have any bad boards see if you can rob one from it.  If not, check with Jim at Midwest slots, he may be able to hook you up with one.  Luckily they're socketed so all you have to is pull one out and replace it with the other.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will check the versions I have. Can these PROMs be purchased readily or not? So the latest one is the 70702202A1 Rev A and this is the one I need, correct?

2201 is OK too.  They don't make them anymore, but I'm sure you can find one from someone here who has one on a bad board.
