e2000 series MPU Battery
« on: April 28, 2022, 04:02:29 PM »
First off, This is a great site.  I just picked up Bally 2000 series machine and by reading through some of the old posts, I've managed to learn quite a bit about my machine.
Initially, I was getting Tilt errors associated with the reels.  I lubed the pivot points on the reel solenoids and fixed most of my problems.   It won't start unless I press the reset button, sometime I have to go to test mode 8.   I'm seeing some random Tilts and issues, but I manage a couple hundred pulls without anything major.   I think most are tied to cleaning board connectors and replacing the MPU battery, I haven't completed either yet.
I have a couple questions concerning the battery.
1:  Please confirm that these machines will not function properly without one.  I gathered that information through different posts.
2.  The suggested replacement is a rechargeable Lithium Ion cell.   There seems to be some differring opinions of whether to replace the series resistor with a schotkey diode.  I found this battery on Amazon:" Liter 3.7V 1000mAh 102050 Lipo Battery Rechargeable Lithium Polymer ion Battery"  This seems like the perfect replacement because it has all the needed LithIon battery protection functions built into it and it's only $7.59.  What are your thoughts on this,  will it work?

Newark.com has some 3.6 volt batteries including ni-cad. Take a look and good luck.

You need the resistor if your battery is rechargeable, and the diode instead if it's non-rechargeable.

Lithium battery will work perfectly. The resistor trickle charges it when the machine is in operation.

The diode prevents charging when using a standard LI ION cell and only allows the battery voltage to go into the memory circuit. Rechargeable batteries are obviously more desirable.

I use 14500 or 18650 3.7v batteries for my E series machines. Inexpensive on Ebay and work great.

What about that seller on ebay that has the 3.7 volt battery with holder ? are extra parts needed for that as well besides those two things ?

No, just those parts will do it.

You don't necessarily need a holder. You can solder the battery directly to the board if you can solder a short jumper wire to the battery terminals.

Otherwise, a holder would make it easier to install.
