Title: coin comparitor BB1
Post by: BonanzaDriver on August 01, 2016, 09:18:56 PM
Hi, I am trying to install a coin system on a BB1, and have everything working except I cannot seem to get the comparitor to work. I have reset (cleared) and set up game from scratch. When I try to enable the coin comparitor, the light turns green, but as soon as I exit, machine disables it (light turns orange). There is no save or set on the bottom of the screen.   :duh: New to the Williams machines!
Thanks for any help,
Jim

I'm using an MC40 in mine, but if memory serves, it seems like coin comparitors are designed for specific OEM devices.  In other words, I think MC40s are available for Konami, WMS, etc.  I wonder if yours is WMS specific.

How would I tell if it is for WMS or not?

The light is only green when the comparitor is ready.  It turns orange when the door is opened and you are not in test mode.  Can you feed it coins in test mode?  It should go through a register as a coin accepted in the diagnostic screen?  Post a picture of your comparitor with the cmi number, someone could probably cross reference with theirs to make sure you have the right one.

I will take a picture tonight and post. It doesn't allow me to "set" or "save" on the screen that says disabled. Once enabled, on that same screen I can see the light turn green. However you can't set or save, so when you exit, it reverts to disabled.  :banghead:

Which game/OS are you loading up?

Rick, if the hardware is correct, could an older version of an operating system cause this or do you suspect hardware?

I think it's Monopoly Grand Hotel. I haven't tried other games yet.

That's interesting, I have an MC-62 in mine.

Jim, I tried a 62 in mine when it was a BB1 and I never saw that model in the list of supported coin comparitors during setup.  Never could get it to work.  When I did the BB2 conversion and used updated operating systems, it was available in the list and works fine.  I can switch between a 62 and a 40 on my BB2 rig without any problems.

The only place where I've seen enable/disable coin comparitor is in the diagnostic screen.  The setup screen just makes you choose between comparitor types.  Once you set the comparitor type, you can go test it in the diagnostic screen.  Maybe the OP can post a screenshot of where he is doing the enable/disable button?

Here's the thread I fired up a while back around this topic:

Doesn't look like your cmi number is legit for WMS.

The spec sheet is attached.

Thanks,
Jason

So if I am understanding this correctly, those are the only numbers that would work on my machine? Hoping maybe there was a second page of WMS machines!

That's the only information that I have.  Maybe idesign or some of the other guys know if there's an updated sheet.

If not, yeah, it might be time to get a comparitor that matches what's on the sheet.

Thanks,
Jason

Ok, any thoughts on who might have one for sale and what one is worth? Oh, and by the way, thanks for all the effort and help with this.

Ok, looks good, but in my reference sheet, the last numbers (200 in this case) would indicate .05 denomination. I think yours in your picture was a 202 for 1.00 denomination. 201 is for quarters which is what I am looking for, does this matter?
Thanks Jim

So, tried to purchase this, and got a refund stating Central Valley slots will be closed for 10-12 weeks due to moving. FYI, not sure the rest of the board know this.

Try buzzarama or Simonbarsinister on the site.  I bought a lot of my misc BB parts from them.  Both are great guys.
