Title: Bally Maverick
Post by: jim7 on January 12, 2019, 11:08:11 AM
Bally Maverick machine went down again and been looking around for a new fix. Replaced the Dallas RAM/Battery about 8 years ago.. Thank you KLAR.. the last known person with batteries.... I have reached out to a couple of peeps on the forums and no one seems to have any ideas of how to fix this.. I decided to try a couple of things myself. I spoke many times with Maxim Integrated the company that bought Dallas..( the original manf) They were kind enough to back research the Dallas chips and sent me what they said"will work"...it doesn't...I also purchased a new/old version of the Dallas chip and that doesn't work. Last time I spoke to KLAR looking for ideas I was told this machine is a boat anchor. I am starting to believe it. Any ideas of what to try next. or should I toss it over next time I go boating??Jim

Wish I could get a complete machine into the shop so I can reverse engineer that RAM problem.
I did get a board into the shop a couple of years ago and put in a regular RAM chip and connected it to a external battery with some diode steering and the customer said
the game came up and played but if it is turned off you have to run the RAM clear chip again to get the game back up.
Not a perfect solution but at least the game was playable.

Could I become a customer...??Would you be willing to to the same mod to my CPU?? Its would be a clear every time we played it but at least it would work..I don't think they make any other CPU's i could swap in and just have a different game (with out the battery problems) and same old buttons and cabinets

Excellent, the RAM chip is now powered by a 3V external button cell that is mounted in it's own socket for easy replacement when it dies.
