Title: PE+ Bill Validator Rejects All Bills
Post by: jkowal43 on February 22, 2022, 08:41:28 PM
Hello Forum,

After many many months of struggling, I believe that I am almost complete in getting my PE+ Video Poker machine fully working! Thanks all who helped with parts and advice.

HOWEVER, I am still running into an issue with either the BV or the Transporter. I have replaced all components from the top power supply to the cash can. When I turn on the machine, the BV cycles. The BV will accept bills, and they will go into the transporter, but then will kick them back out. Nothing flashes on the bezel to indicate an error. Everything sounds fine. I initially enabled the BV via the set chip already.

My question, is there something easy that I am missing where no bills would be accepted by the transporter? From $1s to $20s, nothing is accepted - just taken and spit back out.

Any insight would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,

~ Justin

Sounds like a switch setting on the bill unit?  what type 145 or 200?  on a 200 head I believe switch 10 has to be down for the right protocol.  BV enabled, lamps on indicating bill unit ready to accept, limits set, all these have to be done as well.

It is a 200 head. Lamps are on. I’ve tried having switch 10 both up and down and I get the same response—- bills accepted but then rejected. When I run through the test screens, everything seems to be in order. When I put a bill into the BV, the BV test screen turns briefly from 0 to 1, and then back. So it’s definitely picking it up. I’m stumped!

Your DBV-200 needs to have the IGT software on it to be compatible with your machine. Is there any indication on the labels on it that it's ID-022/ID-023?

Also, when testing, use only $1 bills in good condition. The DBV-200 will not accept many modern bills, but should still accept $1s without a problem. As such, use only $1 bills while testing until you can get the validator to accept them reliably, then you can move on to other bills.

It is a DBV-200-SS  with ID 022/023 on it. I have another BV with the same configuration, but it doesn't seem to work as smoothly as the other one.

I have only been using $1 bills for testing.

Anything else i might be missing?

When the bills are accepted, there is pause after the entire bill is accepted, so it seems like the machine is thinking, and then decides to reject it. No blinking light on the besel. Seems like it just treats it as a rejected dollar. Could the BV need to be cleaned somehow to better read the bill?

When it accepts and holds a bill it's trying to communicate with the machine.  If it doesn't like the bill it will reject it right away.  Did you set the machines denomination when you enabled the validator?

That's good thinking, Tilt. Make sure the machine denomination is set to $1 or less.

Otherwise, based on your description, it sounds like the bill validator is set to the wrong protocol. As Jim suggested earlier, flip DIP switch 10 to the opposite of its current position. In the interest of being crystal clear and complete in explanation, we're talking about a DIP switch on the DBV-200 head, not a DIP switch on the MPU board of the PE+ machine.

Ok, I’ve changed the dipswitch 10 on it and the same result happens. Bills accepted and then rejected. I adjusted the bill limit size in the test screen, but no change. I put in a different BV but using that other one, the bills get stuck in between the BV and the transporter. Could something broken there be causing this issue?

BV is enabled already using the set chip. I was told that I don’t need to remove and put back. Unless I am mistaken?

Thanks!

So long as you've enabled it and it's attempting to accept a bill, there's nothing more you need to do on the software side -- it's enabled.

To confirm, are you trying only $1 bills in good condition?

The self-test screen that has denomination does absolutely NOTHING for the bill validator. It simply changes the on-screen pay table.

S+ and PE+ are CREDIT machines and have no idea of what denomination they are using.
This is why you have a sample coin in the comparator - When a coin is inserted it compares the coin - if its a match you get a credit.
The machine is completely unaware if its a penny, Nickle or quarter or a token.
With that said your coin head needs to be wide enough to accept the coin, the optics have to have the right spacers and you need the right wheel for your hopper to lift the coins correctly but otherwise the electronics are completely oblivious to the denomination.

The SET chip both enables and SETs the bill denomination. If you set it to be 0.25 here this tells the validator to pulse in 4 credits when you insert a dollar.
I suggest you pop in your set chip again and make sure your set for a quarter denomination.
