I’m trying to help out a friend and get his S plus going. At start up it gives me code 21 coin in tilt error and I haven’t been able to clear it. The battery is good (3.6v), I’ve taken the coin in board apart and cleaned the opto’s and checked input tests 10-1, 11-1, 12-1) and they toggle back and forth 1-0 fine.
What’s strange to me is I’ve never seen an S+ without coin comparator like this one. Could this somehow be causing the error code or will this run without a coin comparator?
Any thoughts would be appreciated on other things to check.

The Imonex were used as a mechanical coin mech.
Without a CC-16 (or -33 if its large token) you will get a 21.
Q2 or Q4 needs to be clipped on the coin-in optic (some have q2 some have q4) and it should fix your 21 issue.

Thanks Jay, how will I know if it’s Q2 or Q4?

Labeled on the board.
Some have Q2 some have Q4
If you do a forum search on Q2
There are a couple pics of the various boards with the details

Thanks, I’ll report back after I look at it tomorrow.

After further review, Q2 has already been clipped. Any other thoughts appreciated on what I should check next.

Try the Popsicle test again, and also check the Service credit button for proper operation.
If it still doesn't work, get rid of the Imonex and get a real 24V S+ CC-16 coin comparator.
You will need the coin comparitor harness too.
Jim of Midwest Slots would have all this stuff probably! :)

since you can get into the test mode , get into the inputs test and run test 13, this tets checks the door optics, when in this test you will close the door and put down the latch, you should see the 13_0 change to 13_1, and continue to cycle , this tells you the machine will reset error codes when the door is closed.
if it doesn't cycle something in the door optic loop is not working.
Hope this helps

Thanks Jim, I’ll give that a try as well.
