Title: CEI/Cal Omega video poker
Post by: Chris-socal on April 14, 2022, 09:32:17 PM
Found this on Offerup. The original owner passed and left it to a close friend. She couldn’t get it to work so she opted to sell it. I understand because it is far too heavy for an average person to move around a house.
The great news is that the game boots and the CRT works great (G19). Need to work through a coin mech problem and do some detail cleaning. I have always wanted a CEI poker machine, I just never expected to find one that is over 5’ tall and this heavy.
The stainless steel front panel is a little unconventional, Im trying to imagine a row of 20 in a casino. Hmmm.

That's a cabinet I've never seen before. It looks very industrial. I've never seen the drop down door like that.
I can see why it's so heavy. How much did you get it for? Post a video when you get it up and running.
I played mine last night. It's in a more standard cabinet with wood laminate on the sides, chrome in front and the hinged door.

$100! I saw no reason to negotiate the asking price, I could see everything was intact although it wouldn’t boot. The only thing I did to get it to boot was plug in the hopper harness, went into setup menu and when I exited it booted up. There are a few issues that need troubleshooting though.
I think the boards are completely factory, I see no signs of replacement caps! Not any leakage.
I wonder if this case was designed for a bar or an environment where they don’t have stools.

Here is a video.

Any advice on tuning a coin mech?
It randomly rejects coins after taking 4 or 5 with no problem. Im curious if this is mechanical or the magnetic system malfunctioning.

Thanks for the video!
Have you tried simply adjusting the coin mech? I believe turning the screw to the right loosens it up. Either way, adjust it all the way left or right until the coin does NOT pass through. Then back off the screw until the coin falls, then maybe give it a quarter turn more or so.
Also, make sure there isn't any gunk in the coin mech. It is a coin mechanism and not a coin comparator, correct?

Thanks. The coin width is the one adjustment I haven’t messed with. Based on the randomness and the fact that once it starts failing it continues until you remove and re-seat it Im leaning toward an alignment problem with the electromagnetic diverter. It almost seems like the pin is sticking up a little too high, possibly because someone was tinkering with it before. The me h does not reject when outside of the machine.

Some people mess with those if they start buzzing. Have you just tried cleaning that entire area? I actually use a contact cleaner with lubricant for some of those issues.
Just don't use it on an electric stove!! I'll tell you THAT story later.  :24:

Everything is clean and debris free. I watched a good video on Youtube posted by Coinmech, good insight on how it works, although there are nuances specific to a nickel unit they only mention in their maintenance document.
I can’t wait to hear that story, I suspect the smell of burning hair is part of the experience.
