Title: Game King Hopper Error Question

I have a chance to buy a game king locally for what I think is a good price. Seller has pics of it working, but says he pressed cash out button and now stuck with hopper error. Setup for TITO, no hopper. Apparently replaced battery and defaulted to hopper enable. Says he was told he needs a 17 chip. I have no experience with gamekings. I have no problem doing some work on a machine, but is this something that is reasonable to troubleshoot?

You will need a key22 to clear and key.  You can't key with credits on machine.  Need key17 to key only (no credits).

Thanks Mark. I'm only familiar with S series and Bally 5500 machines for the most part. Does that mean it's something that's resolvable without too much trouble, provided everything is as stated?

Yes.  There are many different game king sets, some use different keychips than others.  Be best to find out which version is on machine before you buy clear/keychips so you get the correct one(s).

Got the machine home this morning. It shows the hopper error and has the amount owed, says call attendant. Turning the jackpot reset key will let me into diagnostic menus. Reviewing previous play history I believe the guy I got it from when he says he and his kids were playing it and hit the cashout button. So where do I go from here as far as getting proper key chip to reset machine? I found the following info in the menus:
Game Kit Version: GK003319
Boot Prom Version: GKB00036

You have an 044 board.  You want a GKDEV39 fast boot/clear/key chip. This will allow for fast boot and can leave it installed and clear/key anytime you want.  Or you can use the old standard key28. PM sent.
