Hello,
This is my first post and my first slot machine.  Recently purchased Double Diamond 3 coin pay line.

*Only the prom had a sticker and it was mainly unreadable, partially missing, and covered with old darkened security tape.
 
When I first turned the machine on I got the typical error code-12. I knew I needed a battery, though first I tried to determine the game chips that were inside by using the reset button and could not get passed a 2 or 3 in the coins played window. (I don’t remember which)  *So at that point I had no idea what the chips were.
 
After replacing the battery I now get 61 in the winner paid with a blank coins played window. If I hold the reset now, I do not hear a ding and the machine does not move onto 61-1. Instead I get a “0”in the coins played for a second then back to only 61 in the winner paid with a blank coins played window.
 
Other Issues…
Another post stated that if the BV is not secured the machine will not reset. Which could be my issue as the cable that goes into the BV has several prongs missing. I am not sure where to get another cable or what to exactly order.  The Current cable goes to an unused female connector with 3 circular holes (rectangular with one flat and one round end), Also splits to a power block (upper right of cabinet), to the main board next to the MPU, and to the coin comparator area.
 
*Side question, how did casinos open the BV? it appears to be completely sealed with torx Head Screws.?
 
I knew before purchasing that this it was going to be a project as there was even a metal disk (quarter sized), jammed into the coin slot….likely kids, but…you never know. Anyway, looking for some direction on the next steps I should take, what I should purchase and how?

I think the bv slides out like a drawer, you need the key to unlock it. Is that a keylock I've circled in your photo below? Without a key you may have to drill out the lock, unless someone here knows a trick to open it.

The machine looks pretty clean inside.

Is why I know the cable connecting the BV is missing prongs from the backside.

I see, you mean how did the casino open the stacker/cash storage can. Can't tell from the photo but if you've examined it and it is screwed together tight then I guess you'll need to get a torx tip screwdriver to open it. That may not be the way it was in the casino years ago, someone may have done that after it left the casino. Whoever did that may have wanted a little extra security for the contents.

When you get it open you can probably leave out some screws so the can's lid/door will open easily. But I've not worked on a machine like this, the bv this machine has is not the usual setup. Seems like there was someone this past year that posted about having the same machine as this, their bill validator was not working and someone said it was a bv setup not often seen or easily repairable. There was a particular name for this type of bill validator. Maybe someone will remember more about it.

The inability to get past the error 61 might be related to an open security switch on the bill validator. Have you read this How-To about error 61?

The B/V is a Western Money Systems retrofit. Very difficult to get parts for as most of them don't work. The machine is an early model S+. Have you checked the underside of the MPU for acid damage?

I don't know this bv setup but my guess is those pins ("prongs") that are missing from the connector were removed by the people that installed the bv and the pins are not needed. I've seen that done in other situations when they use an off-the-shelf cable (instead of a custom-made cable) and don't want those pins to make a connection for some reason. That looks like a standard 25-pin cable that was widely used on computer systems years ago. I doubt that the missing pins are causing a problem.

You should be able to get the error 61 fixed even if the bv is disabled. Make sure that any security switches around the bv are working correctly or you can bypass them by disconnecting the 2 wires from the security switch and twist them together. Make sure the door optics are working. After getting rid of the error 61 the machine should work with coins. And you can try getting the bill validator to work, but only use $1 to test it, no other bill denomination will work.

Thanks for the responses. Working on this at night when I have a few minutes.
I am searching to see how to test the optics without using Jackpot key to check 13-0.
I cannot get past the error 61, so I do not believe that optics test method works.
(Reset button simply reverts back to 61)
Also, looking into the security switches on the BV,…first mention of them I have come across.
Thanks!, never would have looked for them.
It looks like they all point the same direction except the 1 in the 1,2 group.  [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8   1  2]

Those yellow switches aren't the security switch. They are the configuration dipswitches for the bill validator. For a DBV-145 and a DBV-200 the dipswitches are usually all set to "DOWN" or "OFF". They determine certain operational things about the DBV bill validator, like what bills it will or will not accept. But for your machine the dipswitch settings may be something else.

The security switch that was referred to earlier is a switch that detects if the cash storage box in installed in the machine. These security switches usually just have a couple of wires connected to them, they signal the mpu (processor) board if the cash storage box is not installed. That is the security switch that people often disconnect the 2 wires and twist them together to avoid having nuisance errors. I don't know if your machine will have one of these security switches, but they often do. If so it is usually mounted somewhere near the cash storage box, can be behind it or on any side so that the cash box presses against it.

Typically on a DBV-145 bill validator there is an eprom inside that contains the operating software for the DBV. But on your unique setup that DBV eprom may be that one in the socket in your photo, under that label. That software will have a version number, like ver 2.XX. The software determines what those yellow dipswitches do but in general they are usually defined the same way for all versions of DBV-145 software. I'll see if I can find a DBV-145 dipswitch chart.

I have found there are no other switches or seemingly missing cut wires for additional BV security switch?
I am thinking I will have to do a clear, as can not get anything other than 61-blank. (now with new battery)
*During startup the BV seems to be doing self test but the reals never spin? All fuses are good.
It may be awhile until I get the clear/set chips and go through the steps.

Some older SP chips didn't go to 61-1, they'd just clear from 61.  The fact that when you press the white self-test button next to the power switch that you get some activity (the quick 0, followed by 61 again) tells me that you may in what we call the "61 loop", even though your particular version of it is that you just go from 61 back to 61.

I'd recommend trying a RAM clear chip at this point.  There's really not much to lose in your scenario.  A SET chip would be needed later to enable the bill validator, but from everything I've read those Western Money DBVs are garbage and not even worth trying to get up and running.  Regardless, you should be able to get the machine to work with coins, and can try for the bill validator later once it's working with coins, if you desire.  Clear chip is the next step, in my opinion.

Been a long time since i got to circling back to this one. FINALLY, picked up clear/set chips (Thank you RB).

(Did not use the set chip yet, just the clear)
Power On went to 61-1 and "Dinged" before hitting test button. (weird?)
After Test Button went to 65-1. (No Ding)

After reset, I had a flashing lower half of the candle and a 0 in the coins played. If I open the door and close again the coins played and candle turn off and then turn back on after about 10seconds.
(I Decided it might just be ready for a coin. After messing with why it would not except a coin decided I should get a new Comparator. Confirmed as my machine apparently did not even have the right voltage comparator installed. I had a 12v instead of 24v. (Thank You Jim!)

Almost everything seems to be working....

(not sure what they are called, just installed them once upon a time in an arcade machine) but, the mini micro switch inside the spin reels button no longer "clicks". Its toast. So I took the micro switch out of the Service Button and still... no matter what, coins, credits, one line bet, three lines bet, the spin reels button still will not work. So checking the voltage there seems to be almost nothing compared to the other buttons. I see no physical burn marks anywhere, but maybe i am just not looking in the right spot?

So, then I thought to finally see what the chips are installed by going into settings. (there is no remnants of stickers on my chips.)

Per the help NLG Help Documents.
"Just press the white test button (next to the power switch) enough times so that a 4 is displayed in your coins played window. "

Well shoot, i can't seem to get past "2" in coins played.

Here is what my Western Money Bill Validator Displays:
(It says Sevens Systems Inc. on the front of it but from previous posts it was referred to as a Western Money validator. I haven't googled yet to find the connection.)

4. TEST BUTTON PRESS FOUR
   COINS PLAYED = 1
   WINNER PAID = 1 0 - 1
   CREDITS = - - - -

5. TEST BUTTON PRESS FIVE
   COINS PLAYED = 2
   WINNER PAID = 1 0 - -
   CREDITS = - - - -

Additional button presses do nothing. stays on 10 , 2.

Fingers crossed for help with the voltage issue and what the Western Validator is showing me.

*It does play just fine other than the spin reels button. I just have to pull the handle until rack up some credits and then the play 3 credits button works. (I have zero intent on ever trying to use bills)

You can't access the settings if the machine has credits on it.

SO... assuming I read your post correctly,  you put in some coin, coins registered as credits , but the spin button is not working then it hasn't played and thusly you have credits on it and can't get to the settings....

Your bet 1, bet 3, bet 88 (etc)  is not going to work as your machine has max credits on it based on you putting a couple of coins in.... you can't bet additional credits as either you have no credits or have reached max bet via vi your coin in.

So assuming your SPIN button is broken Playing Devils advocate .... Did you pull the handle ? has the solenoid released ?


I would bite the bullet and run your clear chip through the machine.

There are no credits on the machine during attempts to access settings. (Either by coin or by accumulated winnings)
'*Consider it does appear to go to some form of settings?

The spin button does not work by dropping in coins nor by hitting "Bet One" either 1 or 2 or 3 times (its a 3-line machine) using accumulated credits.

I did use the clear chip, that's how I got it this far and now its working 90% lol. I did say at the end the handle works.?
