I am new to WMS but Got 2 Bluebirds up and running without issues. The third machine (Brazilian Beauty) boots up fine but if I enable the Gen 1 printer, I get a PrinterCom error and if I enable the WBA BV, I get a BilValCom error. If I disable both, I get a pretty screen to stare at, but without credits of course it won't play.
Both the printer and the BV work fine when I put them in a functioning Bluebird and ones from the functioning Bluebird fail in this machine. The printer loads paper and shows the green light. The red LED comes on the BV but the BV does not cycle. I have triple-checked the connections to the bulkhead board (backplane). I am presently not by the machine so I can't give you any numbers right now (OS, WBA, etc.).
Assuming the connections are not the problem, could this be due to the OS, or is it more likely a backplane, MPU or power supply issue?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Have you tried clearing the machine and reloading the game with the correction BV and printer options?

Yes, I have cleared the machine several times, each time hoping this problem would go away.

I'm not sure what you mean by correction BV and Printer options :Scratch-Head:

When you're setting up the machine, you have the option to select various printer models and Bill validators.
Thanks,
Jason

I set printer to Netplex and BV to JCM. That's what I did on the machines that are working. When I first booted this game, it said I had the wrong OS. I only had one other OS on hand (damn I wish I had the number with me) and it allowed the machine to clear and boot. I'm wondering if that could be the problem?
Thanks Jason.

There are 3 jumpers that control the validator serial protocol. I bet they are not set right on the cabinet where the validator doesn't work. The 3 jumpers are located on the left side of the backplane, the jumpers should be set as follows:
JP1 2/3
JP2 1/2
JP3 2/3

Good call Rick. I've never had to adjust these on my machine, and I always forget about them as a possible step.
Thanks,
Jason

I'll check the jumpers tomorrow.
Thanks guys!

Good News! Bill Validator problem solved!
Jumpers on backplane were set 2-3 2-3 2-3. Changed to 2-3 1-2 2-3 and BV works fine!!!!
I would have saved myself a few hours and a lot of frustration if I went to NLG sooner.
Thank you Rick and Jason! :applause:

Great!!! As far as the printer is concerned, there are a few variables. I've never run across a printer error when switching from one game to the next, so I tend to think that the OS/Game is not an issue. I would swap the harness that goes to the backplane from one of the working units to see if that fixes it, since you've already swapped printers. The jurisdiction chip you have on the 3rd machine may not be stand-alone printer friendly, although I'm not sure if that would give your a printer com error. At this point I would also try moving over the MPU board from a working machine to see if it works on the cabinet where the printer doesn't work. Or use the MPU from the cabinet where the printer doesn't work to one of the other cabinets to see if the problem follows the MPU.

Rick, at this point I'm going to leave the printer disabled and have a hand-pay machine. Some day when I have the time, I may revisit this problem.
Thanks again for your help!

Tickets are useless anyway unless you install a TITO board in your machine. Well worth it in my opinion since you don't have to keep currency around anymore to play the games.
