Title: S+. Powers on, reels lock, NO candle, No display. Please help.
Post by: UPSMANinMI on April 07, 2014, 05:52:09 PM
Ok, as everyone here knows Ive had trouble with this S+ Slant top.  I was having comparator issues, couldn't clear the 61-1 code, blah blah blah. Previously, I was able to run tests, do the troubleshooting, etc.  Now, my display, candle, buttons are not coming on, cant get tests to run, press the test button, no ding.  At times, when I pull the board out and put it back in, then turn the machine on Ill get a wired noise through the speakers, or a static sound.  A couple times the comparator has made noise.  Is it possible a board is toast? Bought a new game chip, new optics, still nothing.  Thanks

Not sure about slant but upright has a power cable that goes from the power supply to the mother board. It has like 4 or 5 wires. Check the molex plug for a burnt mark. It is normal for the ground to burn out. Sometimes you can put it on and off to make contact. Usually have to replace or hard solder. New one's are available that contact 3 sides instead of 1.

I'll try that as soon as I get home from work tonight. I'll let you know. Thanks so much.

Great. That helps. Bought this 6 months ago, had 61-1 code from the get go. I'd like to see the reels spin at least once. Ha.

And this is what it could look like if you fixed it yourself, and this fix is good for life.

Buzz, thanks for posting. I did that once. Took me forever to solder those wires. It definitely is permanent.

Alright, looked for burnt wires, harnesses didn't see any. Took a few pics for you guys just to make sure I'm looking in the right area. Also, there is this black box with a board under it that has nothing plugged into it. Just curious as to what it is and if it could be affecting the machine. Thanks.

Let me give you a couple of names for different parts. Your picture on the box that has the fuses and on/off switch is the power supply. The board that both Elvis and I pictured is the " Mother Board " His picture I circled the plug that goes bad with RED I also put a RED X where you will see the white plug will be Brown from heat. I've never seen one that you could call burned up, they just get hot and loose contact with the pins. There is a good chance you can move that white plug around and make it work FOR NOW.

Elvis picture is of a mother board in a upright machine and it is screwed to the floor of that machine. Your slant top the mother board is upright next to the power supply.  When you install the MPU ( main board ) it slides into the plugs of the mother board. This short cable that goes bad has a plug on each end, one end to the mother board and the other end to the power supply.

My picture I cut the bad plug off and solder the wires directly to the mother board
( the Green stuff is shrink tube )

Elvis just a guess but it should take five minutes or less to solder those six wires. Another guess is you are using the wrong solder and no  flux.  Look on You Tube type in soldering and you will find a boat load of videos, some good and some not so good.

My problem was holding the wire and soldering iron and solder at the same time. I tinned the wires but still had trouble.

Sorry. My mother has been in and out of the hospital all week. Been trying to work and tend to her. I will definitely get on it as soon as she's back home. I truly appreciate the help and advice.  Thanks again.
