i picked up a dime jennings chief to restore. it was in a damp basement, and has light corrosion/pitting all over. its a silver finish, very little painted areas. i'm guessing chrome or nickel plate? im thinking of dipping it in metal rescue or phosphoric acid. i did my mills handle assembly in the phosphoric acid and it came out like new. i dont want to try it on the jennings pieces and all the finish come off, so i thought i'd ask here first.
thanks

Electrolytic rust removal using washing soda, works great on corroded pot metal and rusty steel.
