Was needing a little help on setting up a printer from scratch on an MLD. What connections should I be using? Printer has what looks like 2 pin power connector, Neplex connector and a usb connector.
Thanks,
Tommy

Our MLDs use the USB cable for printer functions. Should also be a 6 or 8 pin plug for power and junk. The printer is a Gen2 Universal, right?
-
yes it is. just wasn't sure how the printer was powered through that 8 pin or the three pin (I think 3 pin maybe 2) That was on the printer harness.
-
Yeah that 3 pin is rarely used, don't try and plug anything into it or you may fry the printer.
-
hi Tommy, hope this will help! the 3 pin connector is for a bezel but i've never seen it used on a Gen2U; the bezel always plugs into the port on the front of the printer in machines i've worked on

This is great info. Thanks guys. I guess my only question right now is do I connect both usb and the serial or just one or the other?
-
So if I plug the printer in I get a green Light on the top but on the main board you can see a light flashing red/green/orange. The machine says the printer is offline. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tommy

hey Tommy, do you know what firmware is loaded on the printer?
-
I am not sure but it does have and IGT sticker on it.
-
you can get the firmware by making the printer print a configuration sheet. disconnect power from the printer, hold the feed button on the printer and plug it back in. keep holding the feed button until the config sheet prints.

GUU0070502 is the firmware. Also if I just plug in the USB I don't get it to turn on. Is this normal?

yeah that's normal...the USB is communication and the white Molex connection provides power. that looks like an IGT firmware but i don't have that exact version on my laptop to confirm; it's probably good though.
you could try another USB port in the machine; we've had them "go to sleep" before. double-check that the device settings are all correct on the machine... :Scratch-Head: still not sure why you're getting the printer offline message, do you have another printer to test with?

Ok well got the new printer in and it works fine. Other printer was just bad. Thanks all.
